We are looking for someone to fill a position in our Payment Services Accounting organization. The individual will be responsible for the accounting and analysis of certain Income Statement and Balance Sheet activities for various Payment Services Lines of Business. This includes contract and deal accounting and analysis for Diners Club International, Discover Proprietary Network, Network Partners, Pulse, and Emerging Payments.

Primary responsibilities include ensuring that the accounting records are properly stated and making certain that Accounting Services’ interests are properly represented in new business initiatives in areas of responsibility. Both of these functions are to be performed within a proper control environment.

Specifically:
- Foster open communication and a team atmosphere with the Line of Business Finance team to understand the nature of new transactions and initiatives as well as business drivers that will impact the month end close process
- Research and memorialize complex accounting matters and appropriate accounting treatment
- Review and approve staff prepared journal entries
- Prepare and record more complex journal entries
- Review as well as prepare variance explanations to provide meaningful explanations of changing business drivers, fluctuations or unusual results
- Substantiate the balance sheet and identify reconciling items
-Lead assigned initiatives as they arise
• Promote a risk-aware culture, ensure efficient and effective risk and compliance management practices by adhering to required standards and processes.

Qualifications

-Accounting degree with 5-7 years of demonstrated work experience in audit, public accounting or corporate accounting
- Advanced PC software skills (Excel, Word, Access, and PowerPoint)
- Must be a self-starter and demonstrate strong initiative and diligence
- Excellent communication, organization, analytical, and problem solving skills required
- Solid understanding of GAAP guidelines and ability to research accounting treatment
- Must be able to interact effectively with varying levels of management
- Must have the ability to work independently and be a leader within the organization
