Currently, Meijer is looking for an Assistant Food Team Leader. Assists with planning, directing, and supervising team members in the day to day operations in the Grocery department under the direction of the Food Line Leader. Implements strategies to improve customer service, drive store sales, and increase profitability. Ensures customer needs are met, complaints are resolved efficiently and effectively and service is quick and efficient. Ensures that all products and displays are merchandised effectively to maximize sales and profitability. Provides support for team members during peak periods or when there are scheduling conflicts. This position is a developmental assignment and as such incumbents may be expected to rotate to other assignments.

Key responsibilities include:

Responsible for staffing selection and hiring to achieve staffing needs

Coordinates, creates, and builds daily work assignments for the stocking team

Supervises, develops and trains staff, ensuring team members are thoroughly trained in all aspects of their jobs and have completed all required training

Mentors and coaches the Grocery team members to ensure customer service and sales goals are exceeded and the Grocery area is maintained to Meijer standards

Schedule and supervise the Grocery, Receiving, Central Salvage, and Fresh areas in the Food Line Leader's absence.

Promotes succession planning by providing career paths, identifying development needs, and being involved with and accountable for promotion decisions

Documents and applies disciplinary actions and makes recommendations concerning discharge

Achievement of budgeted lines in Grocery P&Ls, including but not limited to sales, labor, shrink and margin

Review sales goals and take appropriate approach

Reviews daily ad for completeness and accuracy

Reviews MSPS/VPL performance from previous day and makes the necessary corrections

Reviews Customer Surveys and customer feedback from previous week or day

Communicates the Meijer Friendly Initiative in all team meetings and conversations

Walks the grocery footprint multiple times to ensure that the shelves are full and abundant

Spends 80% of time on sales floor communicating to customers and team members to ensure exceptional service is being delivered by organizing and maintaining the Remarkable Service Board

Models exceptional, fast and friendly customer service

Ensures the backroom is neat and organized

Works with Pricing and Inventory TL to ensure price change compliance

Is responsible for sales floor conditions in all areas of the Grocery, Dairy and Frozen

Is responsible for food safety compliance in all areas of Grocery

Implements Corporate processes to achieve goals including shrink, margin, profit, sales, labor

Responsible for scheduling

Responsible for ensuring all recalls and NDRs are responded to on time.

Manages the bottle room

Responsible for all Food area responsibilities, including Grocery and Fresh Department operations in the absence of the Food Line Leader

Responsible for all Receiving and Central Salvage operations

Responsible for ITB markdowns

Responsible for managing Grocery Store owned space and Grocery Clearance NOP

Responsible for Mass ILC Cut In process

Manages all transitions in Grocery area

Will work until 11pm or later on nights scheduled to close

Reliable and consistent attendance is required

Promotes a safe work environment

Other daily tasks as required

Job Requirements:

High school diploma or its equivalent required

3-5 years of related retail experience

1 year of management experience

The position is a developmental assignment and as such incumbents will be reassigned other areas in the Store

Demonstrated ability to communicate to team members in the organization in a way that provides clear and precise direction

Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and by addressing root cause issues

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks

Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use that information to make informed decisions

Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling

Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times

Demonstrated ability to mentor team members in all areas of the organization including SDITs, team members in hourly positions and team leaders

Successful completion of all required certifications
