Job Posting Title: Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Internal Medicine

Job Posting Category: Advanced Practitioner/Provider

Work Site: MCHS - SE MN - Red Wing

Department: Internal Medicine

Job Description

An exciting practice opportunity exists for a Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) in the Internal Medicine department in Red Wing. The team dynamic of five Internal Medicine physicians, two PAs, nursing staff, and registration/schedulers is built on open communication, support and trust to deliver quality and compassionate care to our community. The PA will provide acute, chronic, and preventive health care services to established patients ages 18 and older. The PA NP will be involved in population management strategies to improve chronic illness outcomes. The provision of care includes but is not limited to comprehensive evaluation, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescription of pharmacologic agents and treatments, non-pharmacologic therapies, and counseling patients. The PA NP will work in one of two teamlets within the Internal Medicine department and will interact with other providers from Internal Medicine, Family Medicine, Pediatrics, specialty consultants and other allied health staff. The many facets of the daily function of this PA NP creates opportunities to develop and hone technical skills as well as implement foundational medical knowledge necessary to perform exams, order and interpret lab or radiologic diagnostics, and create assessments and plans for patients in the clinic setting. This position differentiates itself from that of many other organizations.

This working environment allows for a broad scope of practice to meet the Internal Medicine needs of our rural Minnesotan and Wisconsin populations. This provides for constant growth in medical knowledge and the opportunity to work with several disciplines in the building. Expect to regularly interact with the Radiologist, Oncologist, Hospitalists, Surgeons, as well as Emergency Department or Urgent Care personnel to provide access to the department and continuity of care for the patients. Additionally, our team based care model allows for the PA to have autonomy with patient care and procedures, yet the supervising physicians are easily accessible when necessary. The close proximity to Mayo Clinic Rochester provides another unique opportunity to take advantage of their resources. The scope of practice and breadth of knowledge necessary to appropriately treat this patient population is likely to be challenging yet very rewarding. Daily, needs of the patient will arise that will require this PA to recognize their skill set and know when to manage independently versus facilitating access to a physician.

Red Wing is a picturesque city of 16,000 nestled in the bluffs of the Mississippi River Valley 50 miles southeast of Minneapolis/St. Paul and is ranked one of The 100 Best Small Towns in America. The Red Wing facility is a multidisciplinary medical center in a relatively smaller community yet serves a large geographic area.
