Job Summary:

Provide phlebotomy services for inpatient and outpatient population; provide receipt, handling, and processing services for all Laboratory specimens.

Job Responsibilities:

Follows departmental and regulatory policies for proper patient and specimen identification.

Performs venipuncture procedures in an accurate, safe, and efficient manner following departmental and regulatory standards and policies.

Performs alternate specimen collection methods, i.e., heelsticks and fingersticks in an accurate, safe, and efficient manner following departmental and regulatory standards and policies.

Identifies and conducts problem resolution for preanalytical specimen issues.

Utilizes Laboratory Information System for all specimen processing and handling functions to ensure timeliness and accuracy of workflow.

Consistently uses appropriate PPE and complies with all departmental and regulatory infection control policies, including sharps safety procedures.

Assists in maintaining adequate inventory levels; demonstrates conservative use of supplies by utilizing situation-appropriate devices.

Exhibits professionalism at all times and serves as a laboratory representative while interacting with patients, guests, physicians, and other PRH staff members.

Maintains orderly work area and follows departmental cleaning and organizational policies.

Provides assistance and support to Lab Outreach functions, including but not limited to patient registration, front office reception, use of vehicle for courier route, in-house specimen transport.

Assures workflow continuity through effective hand-off communication.

Maintains regular dialog with Laboratory supervisory / managerial staff concerning quality, safety, and customer service issues within the department and the facility.

Performs other duties as assigned by direct supervisor and laboratory supervisory personnel.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.

Previous phlebotomy experience required.

Basic to moderate computer skills required.

Previous experience in clinical laboratory or health care setting preferred.
