The Informatics Optimization Specialist has a deep understanding of clinical information systems and basic clinical and medical workflows, and works to improve adoption and best practice use of clinical information systems by clinicians and providers. Primary responsibility includes the application of broad clinical informatics knowledge to support clinical and medical staff~s optimal use of existing and new clinical information systems, while collecting utilizing metrics and analytics to validate progress.

The Optimization Specialist understands the clinical IT optimization needs and opportunities, and by proactively observing clinician and physician processes and use of clinical information systems, is able to actively assist in moving caregivers to best practices within the Cerner System. The ability to communicate with all levels of Hospital leadership, clinicians, physicians, and ancillary department staff and is essential for this position.

RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Serves as an active member of the AHS-IS field optimization team, dedicated to focus locally at the Hospital level on the optimization of workflow, streamlined care processes, and promoting best practice use of the Cerner System.

2. Proactively assesses knowledge and use of clinical systems by nursing and medical staff with frequent rounding and interaction with these clinicians. Provides immediate quick win education as needed.

3. Performs assessment of clinical workflow processes, identifying gaps, escalating and coordinating process solutions to support best practice use of all information systems.

4. Conducts intentional regular rounding to all clinical and ancillary departments to support adoption.

5. Collaborates with Hospital Leadership, Clinical Informatics Lead, Physician Liaison, and AHS-IS Facility IT Leader to optimize clinical systems and processes and promote efficient, cost-effective, and meaningful use of electronic health systems.

6. Works directly on Optimization initiatives assigned by AHS-IS Optimization Team leadership

7. Conducts specified optimization audits and reports findings and recommendations to Regional Clinical Informatics Manager and Optimization Team

8. Facilitates data collection and rapid turnaround of findings to improve speed to resolution

9. Monitors data and outcome measures to evaluate user adoption of current and newly implemented systems and functionality.

10. Reviews reports, critically assesses data in relation to processes to improve clinical outcomes and IT system changes

11. Collaborates with the facility Performance Improvement team and/or Quality Department to obtain focused concerns that may relate to system functionalities.

12. Leads and facilitates focus groups and meetings as needed following established methodologies

13. Acts as the clinical IT point of contact at the local Hospital and facilitates communication with AHS-IS staff with needed expertise to provide assistance.

Education and Certifications

* Bachelors of Science in Healthcare related field or must obtain; BS Nursing preferred

* Certification in Clinical Informatics; or willingness to become certified

* Registered Nurse preferred

Knowledge and Experience

* Minimum of 3-5 years in an informatics role or implementation of EHR

* 6 years clinical experience in a hospital setting

* Minimum 2 years Cerner experience

* Broad Cerner System knowledge desired
