Position Purpose:

Responsible for the achievement of the grooming salons budgeted sales goals, gross margin

to budget, labor% to budget, promoter metrics, supply costs, staffing and overseeing the daily

operations of the salon.

Provide grooming services to customers that align with our brand promise, on-the-job training

and coaching for Pet Stylists, Pet Stylist Apprentices and Grooming Assistants. This job is

composed of a variety of different tasks that may be covered by operational guidelines,

policies and procedures.

Individual judgment may be required in order to complete assigned tasks. Position is responsible for the welfare of all live animals within the department. GSM will report to the General Manager and collaborate to drive the business.

Essential Job Functions:The incumbent must be able to consistently perform all of the following duties and responsibilities with or without a reasonable accommodation.

  • Provide quick and courteous service to all customers by utilizing the GUEST+ model in the salon
  • Ensure OSE standards are maintained in the department
  • Manage and provide training and coaching to ensure that all partners are skilled and build great relationships by delivering professional grooming services to every customer
  • Ensure that the salon is staffed and properly trained to offer grooming services during all hours of center store operations as well as handle the customer demand
  • Ensure that all Petco owned grooming tools are maintained.
  • Analyze Polaris data and focal reports to assess the state of the business and develop action plans to improve when needed.
  • Interact professionally and effectively through verbal and written communication with all professional contacts with emphasis on company interests
  • Perform grooming services per customer instructions, ensuring the safety and well-being of animals.
  • Adhere to all Policies and Procedures.
  • Achieve identified KPI goals.
  • Ensure that the grooming points policy is executed in the salon as per P&P’s
  • Move animals and merchandise up to 30 pounds
  • Perform all special and other projects as assigned


Supervisory Responsibility:

Provide guidance and training to Pet Stylist(s), Pet Stylist(s) Apprentice(s) and Grooming Assistant(s). Test potential applicants for grooming procedures and evaluate skills on other job related tasks. Provide input to performance evaluations of Pet Stylist(s) and Grooming Assistant(s).

Work Environment:

The majority of job duties are conducted indoors in the grooming salon. Position requires bending, kneeling, lifting (up to 30 pounds, as necessary) and standing for long periods of time. A large amount of this partner’s time will be spent in direct contact with our customers and their dogs and the remaining time will be with the PSA’s and other salon partners. The work environment can be noisy and wet.

Minimum Requirements:

Education/Experience:

A qualified applicant to this position will demonstrate knowledge and skills in the grooming industry, and either a high school diploma or its equivalent (GED) is preferred. In addition, the applicant must have at least two year's experience in all breeds grooming and have the ability to monitor and provide direction to all Grooming partners. Previous supervisory experience and prior retail experience are preferred.
