About this job

Incumbent provides basic husbandry and health surveillance for all research animals on a daily basis, which may include weekends. Monitors equipment and room environmental conditions. Routinely performs technical laboratory procedures. Good understanding of general laboratory procedures and instrumentation for example, autoclave, surgical instrumentation sterilization, table top isoflurane anesthesia system, Co2 machine and animal scales. A background in animal science or basic science, certification in American Association of Laboratory Animal Science; or has wide variety of skills in routine and non-routine technical laboratory procedures. Education/Certification/Licensure:

Associates degree required, bachelors preferred

A-LAT or LAT (Assistant Lab Animal Tech or Lab Animal Tech-higher level than the A-LAT)

Experience (number of years and type of work experience/environment needed to be fully proficient in the job. This should reflect the minimum requirement, unless noted as preferred).

At least 5 years experience with caring for research animal scientific models.

Knowledge (information gained through education or experience that incumbent would draw upon to perform this job. This should reflect the minimum requirement, unless noted as preferred).

Knowledge of animal care federal and state regulations and knowledge of working in an aseptic environment using state-of-the-art equipment.

Skills (technical/physical abilities acquired through education or experience that incumbent would use in this job. This should reflect the minimum requirement, unless noted as preferred).

Solid computer experience with PC, Word and Excel; Strong ability to communicate in writing and in person; ability to work in a team and independently; ability to define problems and suggest solutions. Solid experience with euthanasia techniques; receiving and housing, weaning, room monitoring and sentinel testing; injections of models.
