Job Summary :

The person hired for the position of Senior EM Medical Coder will review physician documentation and code diagnoses and procedures using current ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions to assure the specificity of diagnoses, procedures and modifiers assignments as appropriate for optimal reimbursement for hospital and/or professional charges.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Multispecialty E/M coding experience

- Accurately code procedures and diagnosis according to specific policies and procedures

- Reviewing patient medical records to assign appropriate levels for E/M services, minor procedures, modifiers and diagnosis for multi-specialties. Assist with denials related to coding issues as necessary

- Participate in Quality Management activities, be able to perform daily QA and perform retrospective audits

- Provide client support as needed. Perform related work as required and/or assigned. Maintain a 3% error ratio or below for Quality Assurance

- Upon implementation of ICD-10, the Coder will be required to have the knowledge and expertise to assign ICD-10 CM

- Ability to travel 10% of the time

Basic Qualifications:

- High school diploma/GED or higher from an accredited school

- Hold one or more of these active certifications: AHIMA or AAPC Coding Certification Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT), Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) Certified Professional Coder (CPC), Radiology Coding Certification (RCC)

- Minimum three (3)+ years of professional coding experience in multi-specialties must include E/M, CPT, Modifiers and ICD-9

- Minimum three (3)+ years of experience with E/M codes in multiple settings including but not limited to; outpatient office, observation, Emergency Department and Urgent Care

- Minimum three (3)+ years of experience with the following coding and documentation guidelines; 1995 and 1997 E/M Documentation Guidelines, Teaching Physician Guidelines, Global Surgical Package, and Critical Care

- Minimum three (3)+ years of experience performing audits on complex coding scenarios and give detailed feedback to clients and to clients and/or coders

- Minimum three (3)+ years of experience with CCI edits

Preferred Qualifications:

- Associate's Degree in Health Information Management.

- Hold RHIT

- Extensive knowledge of CPT, ICD-9 and ICD-10 coding systems and Coding guidelines

- Ability to work with strict deadlines

- Strong attention to detail

- Excellent oral and written communication skills

- Ability to plan, organize and prioritize job duties under general supervision

- Must have good research skills

- Excellent customer service and customer relations skills

- Time management skills to meet client productivity goals

- Highly motivated, independent and innovative

- Strong team player
