Lighthouse Care Center of Conway , a subsidiary of Universal Health Services, Inc. (UHS), is located in Conway, South Carolina., just a few miles north of Myrtle Beach. We provide three levels of care mdash inpatient acute psychiatric and substance abuse treatment for adults, adolescent residential programming and adolescent group home services.

Lighthouse is a JCAHO-accredited Hospital and Residential Treatment Facility. Most commercial insurances, Medicare and Tricare pay for Lighthouse acute care services. Medicaid will reimburse Lighthouse for services provided to adolescents in the residential program only.

Job Summary:

To manage and deliver quality general and psychiatric nursing care to all patient populations for treatment of psychiatric, emotional disorders, and addictive disease: to serve actively and constructively as a member of the multidisciplinary treatment team, supporting the hospital philosophy of nursing care: to ensure the safety and well-being of each patient: to provide administrative support to staff during after- hour hospital operations.

Job Duties:

Conducts admissions in compliance with applicable standards, regulations

and hospital protocol. Obtains all information required in an accurate and complete manner. Distributes admission forms to the appropriate individuals. Conducts preliminary assessments and documents appropriate information. Establishes rapport with patients during the assessment process and provides an open, trusting atmosphere. Works with the staffing coordinator and CNO to ensure units are staffed according to acuity. Assists staffing coordinator/payroll to ensure accurate recording of records of all sick calls, tardiness, cancellations, and absences. Demonstrates an understanding of FTE calculation as they correspond to patient census. Assures the staff schedule and take mandatory breaks during their shift. Utilizes data from hospital quality improvement indicators to determine training needs. Education and training are based on population served and type of care provided by the unit. Works with Staff Educator to assure staff training addresses changes in health care. Works with Staff Educator to assure training programs address areas of deficiencies identified. Conducts informal group and individual training as required. Utilizes current situations occurring with patient population to conduct informal staff development. Surveys employees to identify training needs. Works with Staff Educator to utilize internal and external training resources which are cost effective. Develops mechanism to evaluate the effectiveness of their training techniques and make adjustments if necessary to enhance staff retention. Takes initiative to review and revise job description prior to reviewing applicants' qualifications with CNO. Works with CNO to follow company policy in interviewing candidates, avoiding inappropriate questions. Conducts 91-day evaluations in a timely manner and consistent with policy. Conducts annual evaluations in a timely manner and consistent with policy. 3. Provides feedback to subordinates on performance, reinforcing desired behaviors and intervening promptly in deficiencies. Documents work assets and deficits. Demonstrates an awareness of employee morale in department consults with Human Resources Director and CNO on addressing morale problems. Seeks input from Human Resources Director in addressing employees' performance or conduct problems complies with company's policies in enforcing standards of conduct and performance. Adheres to applicable Human Resources Policies and Procedures, as well as applicable laws, standards, and regulations related to staff supervision and management. Demonstrates and applies and understanding of both employee morale enhancement as well as individual reinforcement, including the distinctions between these. Practices early intervention and documents in employee performance and conduct problems, as reflected in department's involuntary turnover rate and formal employee charges. Demonstrates an understanding of FTE, overtime, and related staffing calculations. Works with Central Supply to adhere to department's and hospital's spending guidelines. Adheres to department's FTE standards. Maintains an effective working relationship with CNO. Demonstrates behavior that reflects favorably on the hospital's and corporation public image. Deals with administrative problems in the absence of hospital administration. Contacts and utilizes appropriate resources when dealing with problems as well as available written policies, procedures and memorandums. Documents and reports information regarding problems documentation is timely and complete. Participates in the investigation of problems, provides recommendations and follows through to resolution of the problem. Coordinates and communicates with other managers and supervisors to provide a written shift report which complete, thorough and accurate. Reports provide census, bed status, medical and behavioral problems, staff incidents and any other problems encountered during the shift. Effectively deals with complaints from patients, families, and referral sources. Assists patients on obtaining belongings from the hospital safe. Ensures compliance with policies and procedures related to emergencies. Supervises and responds to all codes including restraint and seclusion of patients. Provides counseling, teaching, and initiates disciplinary action with employees as needed. Assures procedures are followed related to administration and dispensing medications. Supervises quality of nursing care given to the patients, and guards against patient abuse or violations of patient rights. Attends 2 nursing supervisor meeting per month. Participates in Quality Assurance activities and the development of Nursing Department policies and procedures. Completes and participates in employee performance appraisals. Appraisals are thorough, accurate, and objective. Is available to assist on the unit when needed. Consistently involved in work related activities while on duty. Meets with employees in administrative roles to fain a better knowledge of goals, objectives, and personal style in dealing with problems. Problems are always consistent and reflect the policies and procedures of the hospital. Staff in clinical and non-clinical areas comment on helpfulness of recommendations given. Is able to handle all problems with very little direction. Consistently recommends and implements methods to improve the quality of nursing care given. Attends all mandatory training as assigned. Interactive during training session completing post test, training evaluations and other documents. Receptive and non-defensive toward feedback and training recommendations. Understands and complies with the intent of the Corporate Compliance Program. Maintains proper boundaries when interacting with patients and their families and co-workers. Seek direction or clarification from supervisor or Human resources when necessary. Maintains confidentiality of former and current patient information. Must respect and safeguard the confidentially and privacy of Lighthouse and co-worker information. Avoids engaging in outside activities which are in conflict to the best interest of the hospital. Adheres to and supports the employee Drug Screening Policy. Maintains positive working relationships with co-workers. Conduct on and off site reflects favorably on Lighthouse. Independently seeks out training and development opportunities. Participates actively in establishing and following through on own staff development plans goals and objectives. Makes effective recommendations for organization training activities and methods. Demonstrates resourceful and / or creative approaches in meeting training and development needs of self and subordinates. Reads jobs publications and stays abreast of current issues. Regulatory Requirements:

Possesses current RN's license demonstrates sound leadership skills and utilizes these skills in supervising clinical staff working with patients ranging from 22 years old and up. Basic knowledge of medical terminology thorough familiarity of psychopharmacy and the use of psychotropic medications within all age groups basic teaching and training skills helpful problem-solving organizational and time management crisis intervention skills written and oral communication skills eligible for CPR and PART certification skills in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships in a variety of clinical and support team member empathy for patients and their families flexibility regarding hours and schedule worked skills in maintaining information as highly confidential.
