Learning /Vocational Leader(Teacher)

Please note: This is an Instructor overseeing two programs (Dual position: differential in hours & pay)

OBJECTIVE ONE: POSSIBILITIES

To develop and implement curriculum for the Possibilities Program. To effectively instruct consumers in this area so they can maximize their independent functioning in a work and community environment

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor degree in education or in a human service related field is required. Preferable experience in providing services to persons with physical, emotional and/or developmental disabilities. A Criminal background check and pre-employment drug screening is required

It is preferred that the incumbent have one year of experience in teaching in the applicable field. The incumbent should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, writing and speaking clearly and concisely; demonstrate the ability to interact with various types of internal and external customers. Hours: M-F 7:30a-2:30p

Pay: $11.00 hour

OBJECTIVE TWO: PURSUITS:

Vocational Leader

Work with the Clinical Research & Training Specialist to maintain a quality program, deliver and refine the Pursuits curriculum, communicate results to the appropriate staff members, assist with marketing and conduct new student intakes. Assist with scheduling and act as mediator between the student, parent, and staff as well as the Employment Transition CM, Supported Employment Specialist and assist with the coordination of the job placement opportunities for students. Handle all one-on-one student requirements. Provide one-on-one parent conferences as well as handle all Pursuits email and text alerts.

To develop and implement curriculum for the Program. To effectively instruct consumers in this area so they can maximize their independent functioning in a work and community environment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of Bachelors Degree in Counseling, Human Services and/or Guidance or related field. Psychology, Sociology, Vocational Rehabilitation, or Special Education. Required 3 year’s experience, in a classroom setting, teaching adult learning classes i.e. GED, Special Education and training.

Preferable experience in providing services to persons with physical, emotional and/or developmental disabilities.

The incumbent must be able to relate to clients, families and co-workers in a courteous and diplomatic manner, able to perform in a multi-tasked environment with frequent interruptions and communicate with other staff and students in a professional manner, relating to and helping problem solving issues surrounding student schedules and difficulties. This position must formulate, interpret and implement all areas of Pursuits curriculum for students including pre and post assessments with students, provide supervisor/manager with any student/program problems and how best to proceed, recommending solutions and actions with regard to the Pursuits program.

It is required that the incumbent have 3 years of experience in teaching in the applicable field. The incumbent should demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills, writing and speaking clearly and concisely; demonstrate the ability to interact with various types of internal and external customers. The incumbent must have the ability to relate effectively to individuals with disabilities, their parents and guardians and be empathetic toward their needs. The incumbent must have the ability to work independently, cooperatively and to exercise effective planning, demonstrating excellent organization skills. The Vocational Learning Leader should possess excellent time management skills. The incumbent must have a working knowledge of community resources, have the ability to program, train and be creative in motivating students toward individual success. The incumbent must also conduct self in a professional manner and maintain a professional appearance that enhances the firm’s reputation. The incumbent must have experience speaking effectively to various small groups in a presenting/informative role.

Overtime may be required; flexibility in schedule as well as some travel to attend meetings and required training.

Hours: M - F 2:30pm to 6:30pm

Pay: $13.00 hour

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS: POSSIBILITIES

Curriculum Development, Design and Instruction

The Learning Leader will utilize curriculum that teaches Activities of Daily Living in order to teach assigned consumers how to move towards greater independence. The incumbent will develop new curriculum that meets the objective of teaching assigned consumers daily living skills when necessary. The Learning Leader will monitor individual learning and facilitate training as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for implementing individual consumer Program Plans and document progress daily.

Program Documentation, Tracking and Reporting

The Learning Leader will be responsible for documenting curriculum, creating lesson plans and filling in other paperwork, as required.

Relationship Management

The Learning Leader will keep the supervisor informed of progress, considerations, and pertinent information regarding the learning areas. In addition, the Learning leader will participate in team meetings and in-service training sessions. The incumbent will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines, communicate significant problems to the Supervisor and perform other duties as required by the Supervisor.

Client Care

The Learning Leader will assist in the implementation of program plans, giving reinforcers, providing one-on-one assistance and/or training. The incumbent will assist in the preparation necessary for arrival and end of day client departure. The Learning Leader will communicate pertinent information to rehabilitation staff and assist program participants with transitioning throughout the day. The incumbent will be an active member of the Possibilities team and will assist team members with all client care.

Research and Industry Involvement

The Learning Leader is required to research, keep updated by reading trade journals as needed to be aware of trends, theories or initiatives within the industry and instruction techniques. The incumbent will seek out seminars and symposiums for ideas and stay current with trends, tools and resources available. The Learning leader must also maintain a working and current knowledge of Department of Developmental Disabilities (DDD) Rules and Regulations and Standards of the Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) and a good working knowledge of Goodwill Industries’ policies and procedures.

KEY RESPONSIBILITY AREAS : PURSUITS

Intake and Marketing

This position will work closely not only with the supervisor but also with the Employment Transition Case Manager and Marketing Specialist for Pursuits to determine appropriate referrals for the program. The incumbent will conduct meetings with prospective parents and/or school personnel after intake paperwork has been done and referral approved by Supervisor. Presentations may be scheduled.

Once the student has completed the Pursuits program and a placement site has been determined, this position will work with the Employment Transitions Case Manager and/or Supported Employment Specialist to make this a smooth and successful transition for the student.

Curriculum Development, Design and Instruction

The Vocational Learning Leader will utilize curriculum that teaches personal skills management, relationship skills, work skills, functional math and career exploration skills in order to teach transitional youth how to move towards greater independence. The Vocational Learning Leader will monitor individual learning and facilitate one-on-one assistance as needed. The incumbent will also be responsible for monitoring individual student goals for school districts, if needed, and document progress daily. Program refinement and/or additions will be done on a quarterly basis.

Program Documentation, Tracking and Reporting

The Vocational Learning Leader will be responsible for documenting curriculum, attendance, behavior and progress of students, creating lesson plans and filling in other paperwork as required. The incumbent will complete daily activity sheets for each student that details what each student does on a daily basis as well as time in and time out. In addition, all other necessary documentation will be completed as needed. Text alerts will be sent to promote class attendance.

Relationship Management

The Vocational Learning Leader will keep his/her supervisor informed of progress, considerations, and pertinent information regarding the learning areas. In addition, the Vocational Learning Leader will participate in meetings and training as required by supervisor. The incumbent will deal effectively and calmly with non-routine situations following accepted guidelines, communicate significant problems to the Supervisor and perform other duties as required by the Supervisor.

Student Care

The Vocational Learning Leader will assist in the implementation of program curriculum, giving positive re-enforcers, providing one-on-one assistance and/or training. The incumbent will assist in the preparation necessary for arrival and end of day student departure and provide supervision at the beginning and end of the day to ensure safety of program participants when exiting and entering the facility. The Vocational Learning Leader will communicate pertinent information to supervisor and assist program students throughout the day. The incumbent will also plan and implement Friday “fun activities” for each week. The incumbent will be focused on the transitional youth with intellectual disabilities population.

Research and Industry Involvement

The Vocational Learning Leader is required to research, keep updated by reading trade journals as needed to be aware of trends, theories or initiatives within the industry and instruction techniques.
