Position Summary:
Assists department director/manager by coordinating clinical and department activities on the patient unit, including supervising the quality of treatment and care of the patients. Ensures that care is delivered to each patient in accordance with quality standards. Promotes the utilization of an electronic health record and assists associates in understanding proper electronic documentation. Acts as liaison between physician and patient care team. Maintains communication and promotes cooperation with other departments. Supervises the workers of that department, authorizing work procedures and assigning duties. Coaches, mentors, and is responsible for human resource development, using independent judgment or in collaboration with the manager. Effectively recommends and delivers performance evaluations to staff. Has decision making authority across shifts.
Minimum Education/License/Certification/Degree Required:
BSN preferred; Current Colorado nursing license; ACLS preferred; Current BLS required from the American Heart Association.
Requirement for St Anthony North Health Campus
* Hired on or after June 8, 2015, a BSN is required or must be enrolled in BSN program within 12 months from hire date and completed within five years.
Minimum Experience and/or knowledge required:
Effective interpersonal skills; demonstrates the following skills: critical thinking, problem solving, conflict resolution, leadership abilities; previous management or leadership experience preferred. If no previous leadership experience, or if less than one year of previous management experience, must attend the required core leadership courses (such as behavioral interviewing, performance management, finance concepts, conflict resolution, and praise and recognition) within the first year in the role of RN Clinical Coordinator. Possesses minimum of one year applicable clinical experience related to patient population of the department.
Essential job duties:
Management-Business Acumen
Manages staffing, patient acuity, admissions, discharges, transfers to ensure that budget productivity numbers are met
In collaboration with the department manager, assists with the hiring, transfer, suspension, layoff, recall, promotion, discharge, assignment, reward, or discipline of other associates, giving recommendation to actions based on the RN clinical coordinator's judgment
Ensures appropriateness of admissions to the unit and that appropriate staff skill mix exists to provide safe patient care
Manages admissions, transfers, and discharges to/from the unit to prevent the need for divert
Is knowledgeable of capital budget approval and supply acquisition processes
Monitors supply usages and costs at the unit level
Ensures that patient charges accurately reflect care provided (including supplies and equipment used)
Role models positive communication with all customers to ensure excellent customer experiences
Participates in strategic planning related to the department and SAH
Change Management/Continuous Performance Improvement
Creates an environment of trust where associates feel empowered to try new ways of doing things
Demonstrates the ability to identify opportunities for improvement that align with priorities of clinical excellence and associate/patient/physician satisfaction
Demonstrates and utilizes TJO patient satisfaction scores to implement performance improvement initiatives
Assists with chart audits as directed
Demonstrates an understanding of regulatory requirements and takes steps to ensure compliance in the department
Serves as a communication link between department associates, physicians, patients, families, other departments, manager, directors, and senior leadership
Supports evidence based practice techniques and methods in improving patient care
Engagement
Actively participates (minimum of 80%) in unit and organizational meetings, including monthly RN Clinical Coordinator meeting
Actively participates in departmental/hospital committees
Serves as a resource to staff in communicating change
Serves as a liaison with physicians, patients, nursing staff, and visitors when challenges occur
Provides praise and recognition to staff when they experience successes or accomplishments
Addresses conflict constructively, utilizing effective listening skills and communication skills
Assists department manager in the PMI (personal management interview) process
Assists department manager in the interviewing and hiring process
Self Management
Performs role autonomously, reporting key issues or events to department manager /RN Administrative Manager
Ensures risk management and quality reports are completed and turned into appropriate authority in a timely fashion
Serves as a positive professional role model
Demonstrates effective follow through skills
Sets 2-3 annual professional growth goals and follows through with an action plan to meet those goals
Seeks educational opportunities in addition to required learning to develop knowledge and skills (ie, Leadership Development courses/offerings)
