POSITION PURPOSE
-

The Lead Modeler should have solid data modeling skills. A Lead Modeler owns and drives the designs for applications in a specific subject or functional area. The Lead Modeler works with the business analyst and development team to create models and to guide the development team in terms of integration requirements. The Lead Modeler creates conceptual, logical and physical diagrams. They are also responsible for creating and maintaining the metadata related to a model. The Lead Modeler is responsible for ensuring that the models are designed in a way that fits the requirements, but that also meets the strategic goals of the enterprise architecture team. They will assure reuse and consistency of the models. In addition to these modeling tasks, a Lead Modeler is also responsible for mentoring other members of the team. They are responsible for approving models, setting standards and ensuring that designs meet the enterprise strategy.


MAJOR TASKS, RESPONSIBILITIES AND KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES -

 
In the case of large projects the Lead Modeler will gather requirements from business users and analyze requirements utilizing various methods. The Lead Modeler will transform the business requirements into business rules and validate with the development teams. The Lead Modeler will create various types of models based on the requirements and business rules. The Lead Modeler will integrate models and ensure definitions are consistent across the enterprise for share-ability and reusability. They will conduct and participate in model reviews, ensuring that models accurately reflect the business rules and policies to satisfy the business requirements. They will produce standard reports and deliverables to communicate with project teams and business users. They will participate and provide guidance and feedback in physical design reviews. They will approve models, set standards and ensure that designs meet the enterprise strategy. They will facilitate the design and distribution of reference data, working with the application teams and business users. They will develop, maintain, and apply standards for enterprise modeling, including reviews, naming conventions and XML naming standards. They will manage models and metadata for easy updates and retrieval.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND COMPETENCIES -

• Ability to analyze, plan and understand software development and translate into structured methods
• At least 3-4 years data modeling experience using standard tools and methodology
• Able to guide and mentor other team members
• Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal/external customers, gets customer information and uses it for improvements, acts with the customer in mind, establishes and maintains effective relationships with customers and gains their trust and respect
• Sees underlying relationships and gets at the meaning beneath the surface
• Sees patterns in situations within the organization
• Sees a similarity or difference between a situation within the organization and own past or current experiences



NATURE AND SCOPE -

Typically reports to Manager, Information Technology
Responsible for helping others and providing on-the-job training or guidance


ENVIRONMENTAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -

Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
Typically requires overnight travel less than 10% of the time.



MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
-
Must be eighteen years of age or older.
Must pass the Drug Test.
Must successfully complete any required training or orientation courses.


EDUCATION REQUIRED -
The knowledge, skills and abilities typically acquired through the completion of a high school diplomas and/or GED.


YEARS OF RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE - 7

PHYSICAL JOB REQUIREMENTS -
Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS -
BS Computer Science or related field, MS a plus
7-9 years of experience.
Solid understanding of the complete software development life cycle.
Ability to analyze, plan and understand software development and translate into structured methods.
