BON SECOURS BALTIMORE HEALTH SYSTEMPOSITION SUMMARY Responsible for providing a safe and healthy environment for visitors, patients, and employees. Monitors environment to detect potential hazards, notifies appropriate personnel and takes corrective action. Primarily remains on standby in the Emergency Room to deter and/or prevent acts of violence. Notifies the Security Staff on duty when action is taken. Provides assistance and services to public and employees according to established procedures.Promotes good will by talking casually with patients and staff, answering questions, learning of situations requiring police action. Ensures Patient safety by patrolling the Emergency Department identifying potential security threats and fire hazards making sure all emergency exits are clear from obstruction. Assists nursing personnel in controlling severely combative patients, provides crisis intervention services to patients regarding incidents such as fights, assaults on staff members. Conducts theft prevention by monitoring employees, visitors and unauthorized persons. In the event of a bomb threat, fire, active shooter, and all other emergencies requiring evacuation will take charge and coordinate the evacuation while summoning the Baltimore City Police. JOB REQUIREMENTS 1. Graduate of the Baltimore City Police Department 2. Active Police Officer employed by the Baltimore City Police Department 3. Certified by the Maryland Police Training Commission4. Have approved secondary employment with the Police Department.5. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. As part of the requirements for Off Duty Baltimore City Police Officers working the Emergency Department at Bon Secours Hospital they must be in uniform and armed at all times with their Departmentally issued service pistol. Each Police Officer must also have met the following Maryland Police Training Commission standards.1. Successfully completed four (4) hours classroom instruction pertaining to firearm safety, firearm retention and sight control.2. Successfully qualified on the firing range achieving a score of no less than seventy (70%) percent.3. Must possess a current Maryland Police Training Commission Certification Card.4. Must be a member in good standing with the Baltimore City Police Department vested will full arrest powers.
