Position Summary

Provide quality patient care to all patients within the medical imaging department. Perform high quality images and exams on patients while maintaining the sensitivity to patient needs. Follows standards of safe radiation practice. Demonstrates leadership abilities and is a role model for other associate technologists. Acts as a clinical resource to unit personnel and assures current standards of practice for the unit.

Minimum Education Requirements

Associates Degree strongly preferred

Bachelors Degree preferred

Minimum Experience Requirements

Knowledgeable in all aspects of Diagnostic Imaging to include Surgery and Trauma as required

Previous Radiologic Technologist experience preferred

License/Certifications

Registered Technologist, Radiology - R.T. (R) (ARRT)

Current Basic Life Support from American Heart Association

Bone Density certification preferred within 6 months of hire, if applicable to entity

Position Duties

PATIENT CARE Performs diagnostic radiology procedures, providing safety for self, patients and all other individuals. Practices all rules and regulations pertaining to radiation safety, reducing personal and patient exposure to "as low as reasonably achievable" (ALARA). Explains the procedure to patients and responds to their physical and emotional needs. Assists with post procedure patient/family education and follow up care. Observes patient and equipment during the procedure and reports/documents unusual occurrences and records patient's condition. Produces and develops quality radiographs in a complete, accurate and timely manner. Communicates in writing and verbally with all physicians, imaging personnel, students and hospital staff in facilitating the continuum of care. As assigned by management, performs technologist duties of other ARRT certified modality. Facilitates smooth patient flow, scheduling and optimal use of equipment/resources. Performs IV starts and contrast administration as required.

DOCUMENTATION Correctly inputs charges and required data for procedures and for supplies utilized during the procedure/exam. Completes required hospital/medical imaging paperwork for each exam performed.

PROBLEM SOLVING Proactive in problem identification and following up with appropriate management personnel. Maintains high skill level through ongoing education / meeting attendance and shares learning with staff. Participates in clinical training for students and / or staff technologists. Administers positive emotional support to patients under adverse conditions. Establishes a motivating, constructive rapport with physicians, staff and system departments. As required, floats to other Centura Health facilities as needed. Engages in professional activities through involvement in organizations, journal clubs, on-line education, etc. Represents the mission, vision and values of the organization through volunteer activities which enhance the image of the profession and the organization throughout the community, IE., fundraisers, walks, community education fairs, etc.

EQUIPMENT Prepares room, equipment, and exam materials needed for exam. Maintains technical operation of equipment, notifies service when necessary, notifies supervisor of equipment problems, and logs the service calls and problems in the problem log. Maintains clean work area for employees and patients. Maintains QC checks and equipment maintenance logs.
