3M is seeking a Technical Writer for the Safety & Graphics Business group in the Commercial Solutions Division located in Maplewood, MN Be part of what's next!

Job Summary :

The person hired for the position of Technical Writer will be responsible for generating technical documentation for a broad range of Commercial Solutions product lines. Write and edit content for technical information including: product bulletins, tech data sheets, instruction bulletins, and training guides. Maintain product warranty matrices. Solicit information from subject matter experts, then write, edit and format information. Manage reviews, reconcile reviewer comments and publish completed technical literature by stated deadlines. Support several product categories, so must be able to synthesize information and synchronize it with existing literature to ensure message consistency. Seek ways to both maintain and continually improve the accuracy and efficiency of processes related to technical literature.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

1. Design and write clear, concise, accurate documents for multiple products, addressing the needs of the division and customers. Understand the audiences, tasks, and products assigned, in order to deliver information in the format, structure, and delivery method most effective and useful for the identified audience. Incorporate sound principles of instructional design, professional writing and grammar into all documents. Review and edit marketing literature for accuracy, branding and proper claim substantiation.

2. Maintain ongoing knowledge of the audience and products. This includes maintaining effective and continuous communication with the technical service, marketing and product development staffs, as well as coordinating communications among other writers and the communications team. Take the initiative to prevent, raise and resolve content conflicts. Investigate all questions and issues thoroughly, creatively gather information, critically analyze and compare source information to ensure accuracy and completeness. Regularly exchange product information with other customer facing communications resources to initiate cross-product efficiencies and improvements.

3. Maintain optimum productivity, consistency and document quality through use and ongoing improvement of department processes including completion of appropriate review cycles. Participate in assignment planning to optimize writer skills. Maintain department standards in all documents, including use of standard templates. Evaluate and coach other team members in department processes, standards, writing quality, information design, and usability. Use cross-product knowledge, experience, and industry research to initiate improvements in information delivery and refinements of department standards and processes.

Effectively learn and use all tools necessary for delivering usable information, including desktop publishing tools, presentation software, spreadsheets, word processing, knowledge center software, and file conversion software. Coach other team members on the use of tools. Effectively learn and use applicable business software to facilitate communications and information gathering.

Basic Qualifications:

- Minimum of a Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university

- Minimum five (5) years of technical writing experience

- Minimum of one (1) year of project and/or team management experience

Preferred Qualifications:

- Skilled at Adobe Framemaker, Adobe Illustrator, JIRA and Celum

- Strong Writing and editing skills

- Skilled at QuickSilver Documentation software

- Knowledge of Commercial Solutions Products

- Excellent Communications and research skills
