The Vascular Surgery division falls within the Emory University Department of Surgery. The Chief of the Vascular Surgery division is appointed by and reports directly to the Chair of the Department of Surgery. Other faculty members of the Vascular Surgery division will report directly to the Chief of Vascular Surgery. The Vascular Surgery division currently provides patient care at the following locations; Emory University's main campus (Clifton), Emory St. Joseph's Hospital/Campus, the Atlanta VA Medical Center, Grady Health System, and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

1. The Chief of Vascular Surgery will be responsible for the success of both the clinical and academic components of Vascular Surgery at Emory University.

a. The clinical component resides primarily within The Emory Clinic. The Emory Clinic (TEC) is the 1,600-plus-physician practice of the Emory University School of Medicine (SOM). Its physicians serve as the portal of access to Emory Healthcare's many clinics, hospitals and affiliates in metropolitan Atlanta and Georgia. Clinical services are also provided at Grady Health System and the Atlanta VA Medical Center.

b. The academic component resides within The Emory University School of Medicine and comprises the education and discovery missions of Woodruff Health Science Center's tripartite mission. The SOM has 2,359 full and part-time faculty and 712 volunteer faculty.

2. Promulgate the Woodruff Health Science Center's strategic mission and vision and provide leadership for a division of 14 Vascular Surgeons.

a. Clinical: The Chief will partner with administration and be responsible for oversight and management of the vascular surgery faculty, growing the practice through health system integration and external relationships, ongoing communication about the practice to the organization, and driving operational efficiencies and quality.

b. Research: Provide guidance and oversight of research activities in the division in collaboration with the vice chair for academic affairs. Undertake a systemic review of the research enterprise within the division and develop a plan to enhance and expand research operations in conjunction with the vice chair for academic affairs.

c. Education: Responsible for the recruitment of vascular surgery fellows. The Chief will lead efforts to ensure the competitiveness of the fellowship program which includes development of an innovative curriculum, assessment and evaluation methodology, development and oversight of the clinical competence component, communication and documentation to ACGME, and program administration/management.

3. Work collaboratively with their administrative partner(s) to ensure the financial and operational success of the division. The division chief is dually responsible for achieving programmatic excellence as a senior faculty leader as well as maintaining financial viability of the division under the direction of the Chair and in conjunction with the department/division administrator.

4. In collaboration with their administrative partner, annually set full deployment of faculty and respective productivity targets and expectations on an individual basis and review through the evaluation process throughout the year.

5. Provide leadership in the development, implementation and promotion of Vascular Surgery programs designed to deliver patient care that is safe, personal, coordinated and of the highest quality and value.

6. Availability for frequent working meetings that will include counterparts from other Divisions/Departments/Centers and representatives of the School of Medicine, the Hospital(s) and Practice Plan. The purpose of these meetings will be to set operational priorities, consider operational challenges, and develop and implement solutions.

7. Collaboration with faculty within and across Divisions/Departments/Centers and with the Hospitals to develop annual and longterm plans for improving health care quality, safety, process improvement and value.

8. Work collaboratively with your counterparts in Cardiology and Cardiovascular Surgery in the development and implementation of an integrated Heart and Vascular Center.

9. In conjunction with the Chair, responsible for the recruitment & promotion of vascular surgery faculty and their subsequent development.

10. Should have demonstrated experience/knowledge of strategic planning, finances including budgets and the basic principles of faculty practice plans, operations improvement, and health system development and management. Should also have demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and education environment and a continued commitment to do so.

11. Should have demonstrated experience in promoting a culture that is collaborative, team oriented, and one that respects the skill sets and opinions of all faculty and staff.

12. Hold divisional faculty meetings at least once a month.
