Qualifications:

Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing

Registered Nurse licensed to work in the state of Iowa

Bachelors Degree in Nursing preferred.

A minimum of three years clinical experience in Emergency Department or Intensive Care.

Charge nurse experience preferred.

BLS/ACLS/PALS/TNCC certification

Basic computer skills

Expert IV skills

Strong leadership, interpersonal and collaborative skills

Strong organizational, time management, problem solving, critical thinking, decision making, and communication skills.

Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, patients/residents, family members, visitors, government agencies and the general public.

Embraces change and is able to handle multiple demands at one time.

Ability to cope with physical and emotional demands in a constantly changing environment.

Knowledgeable of Medicare Conditions of Participation and Critical Access Guidelines

Essential Functions (Including, but not limited to):

Supports the mission, vision, and core values of the organization.

Acts as the primary Emergency Department nurse providing direct patient care.

Implements Incident Command System in the event of an Emergency.

Responsible for appropriate staffing based on patient volume and acuity.

Manage the assignments of clinical Associates in accordance with acceptable nursing standards, plan of care, patient/resident wishes related to nursing functions which the Associate is prepared and qualified to perform.

Coach staff. Recommend in-service education programs, and ensure adherence to internal policies and standards. Assists nurses with admissions, medications, treatments, etc.

Participates in the ER quality improvement projects.

Performs ER unit specific tasks. Call backs, culture log, radiology log and charges are to be completed daily.

Restocks ER patient rooms and nursing areas every shift.

Ensures supplies are ordered weekly and as needed. Out dates are to be done monthly.

Contacts Maintenance Department/ IT Manager when necessary.

Assists with transfers, patient death and organ donation.

Attends change of shift report at 1500 and 2300.

Rounds in all patient care areas at least twice per shift.

Manages codes including Blue, Red, Purple, Yellow, Amber, Strong, Pink, Trauma, Haz-Mat, and Clear.

Notifies administration of media requests.

Creates and maintains an atmosphere of warmth, personal interest, positive and professional attitude.

Follows organizational policies and procedures when providing nursing care, ensuring that hospital personnel, patients/residents, and visitors follow established policies and procedures.

Completes all necessary charting as required and in accordance with established charting and documentation policies and procedures.

Ensures that safety and sanitation standards are maintained in all work areas.

Provides input to the managers regarding associates performance related to job duties and requirements.

Practices excellent communication skills with an emphasis in conflict resolution.

Acts as a resource to nurses who require assistance with clinical skills and patient care.

Assesses, plans, implements, evaluates and collaborates with other departments to ensure quality patient care.

Assesses and provides patient and family education and information pertinent to diagnosis and plan of care.

Participates in discharge planning.

Uses equipment and supplies effectively and efficiently

Participates in personal and professional growth and development

Performs other duties as assigned

Interprets standards, company policies, and procedures to ensure compliance With external regulatory authorities and ensures that clinical Associates

Documentation meets internal standards in accordance with the State Nurse Practice Act.

Writes goals annually in collaboration with Emergency Room Manager that demonstrate initiative, reflect unit performance needs, and are specific and measurable.

Keeps Administration informed of all hospital wide concerns/complaints.

Addresses all Associate or customer concerns during shift. Completes Concern Tracking Sheet and routes to appropriate management personnel.
