3M is seeking a Manufacturing Engineering Intern for the Film Manufacturing & Supply Chain Operations Division located in Maplewood, MN. Ready to be part of what's next?

Job Summary :

An intern (typical 10-12 week, full-time schedule assignment) position is a temporary assignment with 3M's Corporate Student Programs. Corporate Student Programs is designed to provide 3M with the opportunity to identify qualified candidates for regular employment, and to provide students with the opportunity to integrate their academic knowledge with work experience. As a Student Programs participant located in Maplewood, MN you will develop skills, and gain work experience in your field of study.

The person hired for the position of Manufacturing Process Engineering Intern will provide technical and project leadership for Manufacturing at the Building 236 Film Pilot Plant developing and deploying improved process technology for new processes, new product development, cost reduction and quality improvement. This person is responsible for initiating and conducting broadly defined technical tasks and programs within the Pilot Plant. They are also responsible for advising, consulting and troubleshooting film processes within the factory.

This position is limited to working 899 hours per service credit year.

Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

- Responsible for improving key performance measures for assigned processes: Operating Equipment Efficiency (OEE), rates, process yield, equipment runtime and downtime.

- Actively utilize Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma and statistical tools for improving processes and reducing waste.

- Provide technical support to Production and Plant Engineering Staff on daily operational issues.

- Identify, recommend, initiate, and implement programs in area of responsibility to improve product cost, service, quality, process safety and health/environmental impact.

- Establish and cultivate a network of support with Plant, Division, and other internal and external resources as needed to accomplish objectives

- Provide appropriate and timely documentation of work as required by the business unit.

- Participate in developing project assignments and demonstrates independence by completing assignments without detailed instructions.

Basic Qualifications:

- Possess or currently in last year of pursuing a Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering or other engineering related field is required

- Previous internship or co-op experience in a manufacturing facility or pilot plant is required

Preferred Qualifications:

- Experience in process engineering within a manufacturing or industrial setting

- Experience with Statistical Analysis, Design of Experiments, and Lean Six Sigma Methodologies,

- Experience in extrusion, casting, film making, coating, and/or winding

- High personal integrity, an energetic & positive attitude and be a self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision

- Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and organizational skills to manage different priorities and have the ability to bridge laboratory, business, engineering and manufacturing boundaries

- Ability to perform root cause analysis and apply systematic thinking in problem solving

- Demonstrated leadership ability, process control experience, and experience working directly with customers would be beneficial

- Experience within a global manufacturing corporation is preferred
