Florida Hospital Tampa, located across from the University of South Florida, is a 475-bed hospital that provides strategic medical care through the development of specialized Centers of Excellence that focus resources on major disease areas, including cardiovascular care, women's services, cancer treatment, pediatrics, orthopaedics and diabetes management. Job Summary:

Interacts with the physicians and physician's office staff assuring admission requirements are met. Responsible for patient placement operations to ensure that patients are admitted or transferred between units or hospitals in a timely manner, and in accordance with hospital policies and procedures, and according to federal, state, and local requirements.

The Patient Placement Team Leader supervises, coordinates and performs patient placement/transfer center nursing duties in department for assigned shift. Is responsible for coordinating and planning assigned shift activities to ensure standards of bed placement/ transfer guidelines are met.

The Registered Nurse provides self-directed, bed placement and transfer care to groups of patients and other duties as assigned in accordance with Division of Nursing standards and pursuant to Florida Department of Professional Regulation, Chapter 464.003 (3) (a): "Practice of professional nursing means the performance of those acts requiring substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied practices of psychological, biological, physical, and social sciences which shall include, but not limited to:

1. The observation, assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation of care; health teaching and counseling of the ill, injured or infirmed; and the promotion of wellness, maintenance of health and prevention of illness and others.

2. The supervision and teaching of other personnel in the theory and performance of any of the above acts."

3. The oversight of all patient bed assignments, and all internal and external patient transfers according to federal, state, and local standards.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED:

Individuals must possess theses knowledge, skills, and abilities; and be able to explain and to demonstrate that she/he can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.

1. Must possess knowledge in medical and allied health services necessary to utilize screening criteria measured against the documented medical record.

2. Must be knowledgeable about medical terminology, levels of care, treatment modalities, and the health care delivery system with demonstrated ability to abstract medical information and interpret patient records.

3. Requires good interpersonal skills with ability to relate well with administration, physicians, patients, and other hospital employees.

4. Must be knowledgeable regarding EMTALA and Florida Access to Emergency Care guideline

Requirements:

1. Graduate of an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred

2. Current registration with Florida State Board of Nursing as a Registered Professional Nurse (RN)

3. Minimum three (3) years of clinical nursing experience, and one year of supervisory or management experience required

4. Previous experience in a patient placement or transfer center preferred

5. Previous clinical experience in a critical care area preferred

6. Previous supervisory or management experience preferred

7. American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification and AHA Advanced Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred
