About this job

Through subordinate staff, responsible for the overall management of the planning, development, implementation/delivery and evaluation/improvement of education, learning and development programs and consultative services for KFH and/or SCPMG nursing and non-nursing employee populations at more than one medical center and associated outlying facilities OR for education/development services at the inpatient and out-patient facilities in an entire local Medical Center (i.e., Orange, San Diego). May also include responsibility for one or more of the following functions/services: performance improvement consulting, CME/Academic Affairs, Member Health Education, Library Services, Cancer Registry and other assigned service(s)/program(s).

Essential Functions:

* Upholds Kaiser Permanente's Policies and Procedures, Principles of Responsibilities and applicable state, federal and local laws.

* Manages the assessing, planning, implementing, evaluating and continuous improvement of education programs/services for the KFH, SCPMG, physician, nursing and non nursing employee populations based on the vision, strategic business plan and operational goals.

* Provides program planning, management, consultative and strategic planning services in areas of education, training, development and continuous learning.

* Aligns education/development services/programs with current and future needs for a competent professional work force capable of enhancing organizational performance and with organizational/strategic goals and objectives.

* Acts as a liaison with Divisional educational resources.

* Develops and monitors operating and capital budgets for all education and associated functions.

* Coordinates internal and external education resources for education programs.

* Coordinates clinical placement for all students.

* Provides leadership/facilitation to a variety of projects in the Medical Center, participating on committees and task forces representing the department.

* Implements large scale change interventions of which training and development play a significant part within the Medical Center.

* Provides coaching and consultative services to supervisors and managers to analyze/ diagnose/solve performance problems.

* Interacts with community agencies for the support/provision of education to maintain a competent health care work force.

* Conducts ongoing research of current service issues/theories and state of the art training/development technologies.

* Assume other activities and responsibilities from time to time as directed.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* Minimum five (5) years of management experience in a health care setting.

Education

* Master's degree in education or a related field OR six (6) years of experience in nursing administration or education.

* High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) required.

License, Certification, Registration

* RN license may be required for nursing staff development.

Additional Requirements:

* Demonstrated ability to utilize the principles, methodologies and practices of adult education, instructional design, evaluation and research.

* Demonstrated interpersonal and organizational skills for program coordination/evaluation and working with groups.

* Demonstrated ability to use a variety of presentation skills and education and facilitation techniques.

* Computer literacy required.

* Must be able to work in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Demonstrated leadership.

* Ability to lead teams and/or achieve performance improvement with sustained results over time.
