Position Summary:

To provide instruction and oversight to nurses pursuing professional nursing development and education within Nell Hodgson Woodruff School of Nursing (NHWSN).

Responsibilities:

1. Supports the teaching mission of the NHWSN under the supervision of related Program Director.

2. Practices within RN scope of practice and program related guidelines.

3. Participates in all program-related meetings as assigned.

4. Establishes and fosters a learning environment promoting individual and group interactions in order to enhance the learning experience and promote critical thinking skills development.

5. Schedules and prepares materials to be reviewed with students during their program. Coordinates materials, as applicable, with the Program Director to emphasize key elements covered in course materials.

6. When precepting learner in a clinical situation, supervises the delivery of course-related patient care in accordance with acceptable standards of practice, learner's abilities and facility policy and procedure.

7. Assists the learner with clinical assignments that are appropriate for current course content and clinical objectives; seeks opportunities for creative learning experiences.

8. Provides constructive feedback for learners as a component of their learning experience; grades assignments within a timely manner. Coordinates conferences with learners to enhance learning and address remediation as needed.

9. Maintains anecdotal notes for learners that documents performance, areas for improvement, feedback and learner responses to feedback, and conference findings and recommendations.

10. Maintains a professional relationship with the Program Director, clinical staff of The Emory Clinic (TEC), Emory University faculty, NHWSN staff and students, and learners in the program; represents Emory University's NHW School of Nursing values and standards at all times; represents specialty program values and standards at all times.

11. Provides opportunity for learner evaluation of the program through departmental processes. Reviews evaluations, and as applicable, modifies clinical teaching experience to promote positive learner experiences.

12. Completes and submits end-of-course evaluations of learner, facility, and other required documents as defined by the Program Director and NHWSN requirements.

13. Attends pre- and post-course meetings as required by Program Director.

14. Maintains license, certifications (as applicable) and health requirements per NHWSN policy and TEC specifications. Submits current Curriculum Vitae (CV)/resume, license, certification(s) and health requirements to the NHWSN Office of Nursing support staff as required.

15. Maintains personal clinical competence in clinical specialty area (s), as evidence by attendance at conferences and workshops, participation in professional activities such as research and writing for publication, and monitoring professional literature.

The Instructor (Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nursing) must be currently certified as CFCN or complete certification within one year of employment. The Instructor will actively participate with module updates.
