Job Description



Basic Job Functions

Enthusiastically represents San Diego Zoo by displaying a positive attitude, high level of energy and commitment to quality throughout all aspects of the job.
Perform as a costume character and character escort both in-park and out-of-park as assigned.
Performances could include basic choreographed shows and meet and greets with guests.


Job Description
Must be between 4'11" to 6'3", able to lift at least 50 pounds and wear full body character costumes, which includes your head and face. These costumes can weigh anywhere from 25 to 40 pounds, which mainly rest on your head, shoulders, and waist. During the summer, temperatures can reach up to 95 degrees or more in the costume, and you will be in costume for 30 minutes to an hour. This is an extremely hot, sweaty, and physical job.
As a San Diego zoo costume character, you will greet guests, shake hands, pose for pictures and give hugs. We are currently hiring for our special new centennial show, this is an exciting opportunity to be involved in an important and fun part of San Diego Zoo history. You will also act as a character escort to assist the characters and guests. This could entail communicating information to the characters from the guest, offering to help with a photo or giving directions. You must be able to interact positively with park guests and team members of all ages, different ethnic/cultural backgrounds and/or language, and individuals with special needs.


Required Skills and Knowledge

? Must be at least 16 years of age.
? Must be able to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
? Must have strong verbal communication skills.
? Must be able to stand, sit and/or walk for prolonged periods.
? Execute pre and post show duties
? Openly accept performance feedback and critique and adapts accordingly.
?Maintain a positive and flexible attitude.
