Overview

Is responsible for accuracy of patient demographic data; performs admitting/registration/cashier

functions; greets the public with a positive, caring attitude; exhibits professionalism;

demonstrates respect and courtesy for others and must be able to ask patients for deductibles

and co-pays at the time of service. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent

with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Responsibilities

Prepares patient forms and obtains signatures upon admission/registration as required including ABNs.

Records notes when necessary on the insurance note screen.

Compiles, distributes accurate information for a patient's demographics.

Provides patients with financial, patient rights, and privacy literature.

Performs functions for patient transfers, observation status, AU accurately.

Performs required MPI search to ensure medical records are not duplicated.

Ability to identify and provide accurate insurance information for processing.

Works on correcting and completing information in the EPIC work queues.

Professionally maintains patient's confidentiality per HIPAA regulations.

Assists in the orientation of new staff.

Handles telephone information requests with courtesy,accuracy and respect for

patients, staff and visitors.

Receives, greets, and directs, patients, visitors, and hospital personnel in a friendly and

courteous manner.

Assures timely and efficient delivery of service to customers.

Displays positive attitude and adaptable to changes.

Adheres to hospital tardiness policy by arriving promptly and ready to work at

scheduled times.

Flexible with staffing requirement changes and needs.

Regularly attends mandatory inservices and meetings.

Willingness to correspond and meet with Educator to improve accuracy.

Completes the MSP questions accurately.

Checks e-mails daily and stays informed of updates.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent.

Licensure:

Experience: Computer keyboard skills.

Certifications:

Other: Assists with moving, lifting, carrying supplies and equipment.

Considerable reaching, stooping-bending, kneeling, crouching.

Able to distinguish sounds, colors, and odors. Must be able to

lift 50 lbs or more.

Preferred Education: Post secondary education preferred.

Preferred Licensure:

Preferred Experience: Familiar with health insurance and medical terminology and

computer skills.

Preferred Certifications:

Preferred Other: Excellent communication skills, ability to collect monies &

pleasant personality. Competent to provide services to patients

of all ages.

Advanced computer skills preferred, excel, word, ect. copier, and

fax.
