The Regional Produce Trainer is responsible for conducting all training development, techniques and programs for the Produce Department. This position analyzes current training techniques and programs through conducted surveys to ensure effectiveness. This position also conducts orientation and training sessions for new hires. The Regional Produce Trainer reports directly to the Regional Director.

Essential Functions

  • Prepare training budget for department or organization
  • Evaluate instructor performance and the effectiveness of training programs, providing recommendations for improvement
  • Analyze training needs to develop new training programs or modify and improve existing programs
  • Conduct or arrange for ongoing technical training and personal development classes for staff members
  • Plan, develop, and provide training and staff development programs, using knowledge of the effectiveness of methods such as classroom training, demonstrations, on-the-job training, meetings, conferences, and workshops
  • Conduct orientation sessions and arrange on-the-job training for new hires
  • Confer with management and conduct surveys to identify training needs based on projected production processes, changes, and other factors
  • Train instructors and supervisors in techniques and skills for training and dealing with employees
  • Develop and organize training manuals, multimedia visual aids, and other educational materials.
  • Develop testing and evaluation procedures
  • Train and develop merchandising techniques to optimize financial performance
  • Advise and assist Produce Managers in the promotion, program execution and inventory management of the Produce Department, resulting in achieving sales, profit and customer service goals
  • Provide information and support to stores on new items, holidays, merchandising and quality standards
  • Set up new stores and remodels, implement programs and objectives and train store personnel
  • Act as a liaison between the Produce Department staff and Store Management/Regional director
  • Keep updated on competition and perform comp checks

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Bachelor Degree in Business or a related field preferred; or an acceptable combination of education and experience
  • 3+ years of previous management experience required; experience in retail grocery preferred
  • Excellent leadership, verbal and written communication skills with an ability to champion new ideas
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office preferred
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, including weekends, evenings and holidays

  • Travel to/from meetings and to various locations
  • Requires standing, walking, bending, climbing throughout the entire work day and the ability to lift, stack and maneuver heavy objects weighing up to 50 lbs., from 4” to 72”, for a distance up 3 feet for between 10-50 hours without mechanical assistance
  • Must be able to use a pallet jack to move pallets a distance up to 20 feet, requiring a force of up to 85 pounds for up to 5 hours
  • Must maneuver six wheel carts requiring a force up to 35 lbs., up to 2 hours, a distance up to 20 feet
  • Must move utility cart with a force up to 30 lbs., for a distance up to 50 feet and for up to 50 hours
  • Must be capable of climbing a 2 step stool to retrieve product throughout the shift.
  • Must be able to climb a 2 step stool
  • Requires standing up to 4 hours continuously, and a total of 8 hours per shift
  • Requires acute vision for cutting, trimming, washing, and banding produce
  • Must be able to work in freezer
  • Walking a total up to 5 miles in an 8 hour shift should be expected
  • Weekend, evening and holiday work will be required in the position; flexible store assignments
