Pratt & Whitney, a recognized leading producer of the world's most advanced commercial and military turbine engines, is seeking talented engineers to join our organization in an internship capacity during the summer of 2016. This internship positon is within Pratt & Whitney's Materials & Processes Engineering organization based in East Hartford, Connecticut.
Based on your interests and business needs, you will be assigned a position of responsibility in one of the following areas:
Materials development (alloys, coatings, non-metallic/composite materials or advanced materials)
Materials chemistry
Failure analysis
Non-destructive evaluation
Applied mechanics (statics, vibrations, mechanical test)
Production of casted engine components, and
Material applications/engineering approvals
During your internship you will be responsible for supporting commercial and military programs to address various materials and chemical processing needs. Programs encompass include testing and validating environmentally friendly materials and processes, material/chemical compatibility, testing turbine engine alloys and qualification of external suppliers performing specialized operations. Specific tasks may include metallurgical testing and evaluation, pilot testing of chemical processes and coating property analysis (e.g. corrosion, wear, hardness, thickness etc.). As a materials & processes intern you will also document and analyze data/results, prepare reports, draw conclusions and make recommendations based on their findings.
