About this job

Under the direction of Clinic Management, abstracts medical records and monitors appropriate diagnosis (ICD9) and procedures (CPT-4) codes for outpatient and in-patient practice encounters. Responsible for reviewing and gathering information for processing encounter forms and rounding sheets to facilitate generation of accurate and appropriate claims for services rendered. Assists physicians and other team members in understanding and selecting proper procedural and/or diagnostic codes. Demonstrates proficiency in all aspects of coding. Demonstrates experience by correlating coding accuracy with correct DRG assignment. Abides by the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) and adheres to official coding guidelines. Reflects the mission and philosophy of Bayfront Health St Petersburg. Promotes customer satisfaction, quality management and supports team concept. Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent, CCA or equivalent entry-level coding certification granted by a recognized school or national certification society (e.g. AAPC, NHA, AHIMA) with 2-3 years with diagnosis and procedural coding *Excellent understanding of medical terminology, disease process ICD-9-CM, anatomy and physiology, excellent understanding of the ICD-9cm coding classification and excellent understanding of DRG reimbursement system. Prefer Associate's degree and advanced certification as a CCS, CBCS or equivalent with Ambulatory (Physician office) Coding/Billing experience

Required skills- Basic computer skills (i.e. MS Office, including Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.) *Demonstrates competency in the use of computer applications and coding and abstracting software currently in use *Demonstrates excellent organizational skills *Good written and verbal communication skills *comprehensive understanding of the DRG structure and regulatory requirements *Demonstrates appropriate interpersonal skills when working with both internal and external customers *Knowledge of Medicaid and Medicare rules and regulations *Service Excellence skills
