Overview

Under the supervision of a Registered Physical/Occupational Therapist, assists in the delivery of therapy services in compliance with federal regulation and rules promulgated by the Missouri State Board of Registration for the Healing Arts. Performs related duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

Assists as necessary in patient evaluation under the direction and assistance of a Registered Therapist.

Assists in carrying out treatment program involving therapeutic modalities, exercise programs, and

specialized rehabilitative procedures under the direction and assistance of a Registered Therapist.

2.1 Explains treatment procedures to patients, guides and supervises their treatment program and initiates

safety precautions.

2.2 Evaluates and monitors patient status and response to treatment program.

2.3 Reports patient status and progress to PT/OT.

Establishes and maintains required patient records and department forms and submits to appropriate

department in a timely manner.

Participates in multi-disciplinary case conferences and/or utilizes written inter-disciplinary coordination and

communication sheets to help develop and revise plan of treatment as appropriate to provide continuous high

quality care.

Participates in continuous Quality Improvement audits, projects and processes, as assigned.

Participates in monthly staff meetings.

Complies with policies and procedures, utilizes designated channels to inquire about or express

dissatisfaction with policies/procedures.

Plans, organizes and evaluates work activities appropriately.

Works efficiently and quickly producing high quality work.

Conserves resources and watches for a better way to complete work.

Observes universal precautions consistently.

Wears proper personal protective equipment when appropriate.

Wears clothing and Health System badge consistent with dress code, and attends to personal hygiene to

maintain a clean, well-groomed appearance.

Meets Health System attendance standards.

Performs additional duties as directed.

Qualifications:

Qualifications

Education: Must be a graduate of an accredited school for Physical/Occupational Therapist Assistants.

Licensure: Must meet State of Missouri licensure requirements.

Experience : None.

Certifications : Must have a current American Heart Association Heart Saver Provider card or obtain one within the probationary period. Effective 4-1-2010, new coworkers must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider card or obtain one within the probationary period. All Home Care coworkers shall be transitioned to Health Care Provider by June 1, 2011.

Other: Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Demonstrated skills in the practical application of therapeutic procedures, inter-personal skills and ability to function in a responsible manner. Working Conditions, Mental and Physical Requirements: Must drive varying distances to deliver patient care; works in a variety of home and community based environments. Patient care may include heavy lifting and extensive bending and standing. Physical demands are attached plus push, pull, and grip up to 50 lbs., pinch up to 10 lbs., kneel, crouch, and crawl minimally. Equipment Used: May occasionally work with office equipment. Must demonstrate competency in equipment use for the delivery of modalities to patients.

Preferred Experience: One year previous work experience preferred.
