The Medicare & Retirement Part D CFO reports to the Medicare & Retirement Chief Financial Officer and is the key business partner for the Part D senior leadership team. This function generates forecasts and analyzes trends in sales, SG&A, provider performance, product line profitability, membership, medical costs, premium yields, and other areas of business.  Integral involvement in the annual Medicare Part D bid process.  
 
Primary Responsibilities:


Develops, performs, and manages all aspects of financial planning, budgeting and forecasting

Works closely with the business to develop, recommend and establish strategies, plans, and processes to improve profitability and cost efficiencies

Balances the needs of business, segment, and enterprise constituencies

Understands and incorporates industry specific metrics into reports to highlight relevant trends and support fact-based business decisions

Produces clear, well-formatted reports and presentations that communicate a clear, compelling message

Provides comprehensive balanced advice on Finance policies and business issues

Drive market strategies, budgets, execution of key initiatives, forecasts and recording of actual results

Partner with all segment finance units to provide and drive preparation and dissemination of financial reporting to the Part D senior leadership team

Support the Part D senior leadership team in understanding the financial results as well as developing, communicating and evaluating risks and opportunities

Partner with the Part D senior leadership team to define and drive corrective action plans, operational initiatives and financial initiatives

Ensure a system of internal controls is in place and make enhancements as needed

Manage and thoroughly monitor strategic projects that have an impact inside and outside of finance

Mentor, motivate performance, manage and make employment and compensation decisions related to staff

Serves as a catalyst for change - actively involved in the process of organizational change and development

Applies analytical / quantitative approach to problem solving - knows how to obtain and use data, and is comfortable with statistical concepts

Breaks down organizational barriers across UnitedHealth Group segments, build alliances, and gain consensus to ensure results are obtained

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

BA/BS in finance, accounting or related field
10+ years of progressively responsible financial and operational management experience. Advanced knowledge of health care industry (minimum of 5 years of healthcare experience including Medicare and/or Part D product lines)
5+ years of previous managerial and leadership experience of a broad spectrum of professional finance staff (e.g. accounting, medical analysis, financial analysis, budgeting, actuarial, underwriting, etc.)
Exceptional financial acumen and P&L management skills
Proven experience driving business performance in a high growth environment
Ability to anticipate accounting, financial reporting, forecasting, and operational issues, assess their implications, determine their impact and develop and implement an appropriate action plan
Strong working knowledge of financial systems, statements and reports
Strong planning, organization and management skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience partnering with and leading and influencing multiple teams responsible for complex operations
Preferred Qualifications:

Masters degree
