SUMMARY OF ORGANIZATION:
Boston HandyWorks is a social enterprise at Pine Street Inn that designs, manufactures and sells high-quality cutting boards, and provides general maintenance and housekeeping services. It provides supportive on-the-job training and transitional employment experience to individuals with multiple barriers to employment, including histories of homelessness, addiction and incarceration. All revenue generated by Boston HandyWorks supports the training program and Pine Street Inn's efforts to end homelessness.
JOB DESCRIPTION:
The Boston HandyWorks Shop Foreman Assistant works with transitional trainee workers on product production in the Boston HandyWorks woodshop. The Shop Foreman Assistant is on the shop floor regularly and is responsible and accountable for shop production, shop safety, training and supervising trainee labor. He or she also assists with general shop maintenance and upkeep. He or she works collaboratively as part of a team with the Shop Supervisor, Director, Administrative and Operations Manager and the Maintenance and Housekeeping Supervisors.
REQUIREMENTS:
* High School Diploma or Equivalent
* Woodworking, carpentry and/or manufacturing training
* Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record
* A minimum of (1-2) years of experience in some type of production or construction field which had an emphasis on production values, inventory levels and quality control , i.e. cabinet/countertop fabrication, finish carpentry, skilled tradesman, artisan work, etc.
* Demonstrated hands-on experience in carpentry, woodworking and/or manufacturing
* Comfort and familiarity with woodshop apparatuses including the use, maintenance, upkeep and safety policies as well as the ability to communicate to and teach others
* Must be able to stand for long periods of time
* Must be able to stretch, bend, climb ladders
* Must be able to lift at least fifty pounds of weight
