Course Title: Ecology of Fishes

Term: Winter 2016

Covers both biology and ecology of fishes, including evolution, physiology, behavior, and numerical responses of fishes to biotic and abiotic factors; the relationship between fish and the physical, chemical, and biological parameters of major habitat types; adaptations of fish for survival under different constraints.

Responsibilities* Instruct lab and develop lab materials Help in all field trips and advance prep for field trips Provide office hours to aid student progress in lecture and lab Attend all lectures

Required Qualifications*

Position requires transporting students to multiple field trips for the course.

CPR/First Aid Training

Competence with MS Word and Excel required

Applicant must be in good standing as a graduate student at the University of Michigan. If the language of instruction at undergraduate institution was not English, student must be evaluated by the English Language Institute (ELI) for English proficiency and either pass the GSI-OET or have this test waived by the ELI before they can be eligible for a GSI appointment in LS&A

Desired Qualifications*

Prior completion of Environ 409 and Environ 422 or equivalent is preferred.

Prior completion of basic statistics at the upper division level.

Experience in holding fish in captivity.

Experience in field collections of fish and aquatic habitat measures

Decision Making Process Faculty review applications for positions in their courses and indicate their ranked preferences. Selection Process A committee comprised of the Associate Director and the Department Administrator reviews the applicant preferences and faculty recommendations to determine and move forward with selection preferences where possible. The Associate Director determines appointments where no clear preference match is possible.
