Job Description:

POSITION SUMMARY:
Sets up and operates numerical control machine (CNC) and other machines to cut, shape, or form metal work pieces to specifications.


ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
* Reviews setup sheet and specifications to determine setup procedure, machining sequence, and dimensions of finished work piece.
* Works from prints, sketches, drawing, shop routings, machine tapes, machining procedures, shop practices, engineering and other information.
* Attaches fixture to machine bed and positions and secures work piece in fixture according to set up instructions.
* Assemble cutting tools as specified.
* Manipulates controls and enters commands to index cutting tool to specified set point.
* Changes cutting tools and location of work piece during machining process as specified in set up instructions.
* Measures work piece for conformance to specification, using measuring instruments, such as micrometers, dial indicators, and gauges.
* Adjust machine feed and speed and change cutters to machine parts according to specifications when automatic programming is faulty or machine malfunction.
* Operates all equipment in accordance with established operational procedures, safety procedure, shop practice and sequences. Anticipates problems and prevents damage and scrap by taking appropriate precautionary care.


JOB QUALIFICATIONS:
* 1 to 5 years of prior CNC set up and operating experience.
* Can read and understand engineering (part) drawings and tool designs.
* Good working knowledge of shop math.
* Can read and understand plannings.


PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
* Able to stand, walk, push, pull, reach overhead, and bend to the floor.
* Able to exert 20 to 50 lbs. of force frequently
* Subject to high noise levels from operating machines
* Physical hazards from moving equipment and machine parts.
* Breathing fumes, dust, and mist.
* Skin exposure to oils and cutting fluid.
