Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) is a multi-specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 300 providers, 21 medical health centers including six urgent care clinics, four convenient care centers, two lifestyle centers catering to older adults, an outpatient surgery center, plus E-visits and online options via Now Clinic telemedicine technology.  SMA offers patients compassion, innovation, and quality care throughout southern Nevada. Under the direction of the RN Supervisor, works cooperatively with the care team to support the vision of the Patient Medical Home. This MA will be used to directly support the Previsit Team on a daily basis to support the clinic with intervention for direct patient care that requires clinical knowledge. Will be responsible for collecting all the pre-visit/HEDIS/STAR information on over 450 patients per month that come to their clinic's PCP's.  Will call 200+ patients per week who are deficient in their condition management goals to schedule ancillary appointments aimed to bridge those gaps.  Provides quality appropriate patient care, utilizing customer service skills throughout the patient care continuum.  Collects pertinent patient data and coordinates with provider and team for appropriate patient intervention.  May work with front office to ensure smooth patient flow, waiting room management, and adherence to Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) policy 180-2, Daily Collection of Information and Monies for Medical Coverage, Cash Control & Preparation of Clinical Area Bank Deposit, Procedures.  Resolves moderately complex issues and defers appropriately to supervision.
 
Hours are Monday through Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm.
 
Primary Responsibilities: 

Compliance with customer services standards, billing functions to include patient check in/out process (SMA 180-2), cash handling, scheduling and entering appointments, demographics, empanelment and insurance information in IDX
Assists with phone calls and messages.  Documents all calls and actions taken
Responsible for collection and documentation of patient information to include vital signs, chief complaint, review of medications, allergies, health risk screen information and other services
Ability to direct patients to the team member that would resolve issues prior to and after the Primary Care appointment. Participates in the monitoring of patients with chronic disease. Ensure patients meet post hospital visit requirements, medication refills and follow up appointments
Functions as a member of the interdisciplinary team to facilitate care, assists RN with the coordination and completion of patient care plan
Responsible for compliance requirements such as laboratory QC management, waive testing, maintenance of crash cart and drug count as well as other requirements dictated by clinic needs
Other duties as assigned to include, but not limited to, assisting coworkers and floating to other areas
Follow standard protocols, processes and policies to include but not limited to the following:  Medication Refill, Preventative Services, Managing Conditions, and Disease Case Management as signed by department head or designee

Requirements

Required Qualifications:

High School diploma or equivalent
Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant school or 3+ years of experience in the military as a Medical Assistant or equivalent
Normal clinic environment
Experience in a Medical Asst. role
CPR certified or ability to complete within 30 days of hire
Ability to pass FIT testing and wear protective mask as deemed by SMA in the course of work at the clinic
Moderate to heavy phone and computer usage
Ability to perform complex Medical Assistant tasks including tests and treatments within the clinical scope
Ability to coordinate the consensus needed to achieve the medical plan for the patient
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of or ability to learn and apply job functions
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Excellent phone etiquette and call outreach skills, and overall customer service skills
Computer skills, including window based applications as well as EMR/EHR experience, and excellent organization skills
Ability to identify opportunities with patients that allow adherence to and improve our quality measures/STAR measures for patient care
Ability to perform EKG's, spirometry, bone-mineral density, ankle brachial index, neuropathy, multiple risk factor screenings, place lab orders, update medications, and document accurately
Preferred Qualifications:

A mix of Front and Back office experience
Medical Assistant certification
A familiarity with HEDIS regulations
Bilingual in Spanish
