Overview:

The Registered Nurse is responsible for providing direct patient care to patients of all ages in a personalized and compassionate manner. The ED nurse is responsible to assess patients; plan and evaluate their care; educate the patient and family, as needed; utilize appropriate resources to optimize patient care and patient flow; follow the Medical Center's pain assessment policy by assessing the complaint of pain and assisting with management of pain; participate in the Medical Center's patient safety/risk management program, as well as Quality Improvement. The RN is responsible for directing/overseeing the activities of assistive personnel. Performs duties and responsibilities in a manner consistent with our mission, values, and Mercy Service Standards.

Responsibilities:

1. Nursing: Has the ability to use skills of observation, perception, examination, communication in Assessment of patients. Demonstrates knowledge to maintain sterile technique, follows standard precautions and Infection Control guidelines in all areas. Maintain patients' privacy and confidentiality at all times.

2. Resource Utilization: Checks all equipment at specified intervals (defib, crash cart,

refrigerator, expiration dates). Restocks patient rooms, equipment carts and supply

areas and shows ability to complete assigned duties within the assigned work period.

Instills budget awareness and cost effectiveness in co-workers and ensures patient

charges are identified and lost charges are minimized.

3. Communication: Demonstrates ability utilizing appropriate delegation skills (teamwork,

consideration, cooperation). Assist in keeping noise level to a minimum and maintains

a professional environment. Shows skills in communicating patient clinical data to

physicians and other appropriate staff members. Work professionally with ancillary

departments. Calls results in a professional and confidential manner and effectively

helps to resolve problems through the proper communication channels.

4. Patent Safety: Shows knowledge and ability to provide a safe environment and to

recognize safety/risk conditions (clear hallway spills, sharps, report concerns). Shows

ability to work nurse call light system, and transport patients via wheel chair and

stretcher safely.

5. Performance Improvement: Participates in performance Improvement, i.e. data

collection, chart review , Impact plans, Core Measures and ability to identify areas

needing improvement. Complete Gallup surveys, etc.

6. Professional Responsibility: Adheres to attendance policy and attends mandatory

inservices and staff meetings.

7. Documentation: Completes chart forms, according to policy, accurately and legibly.

8. Other Duties: Complete other duties/projects as assigned.

9. Technical: Shows ability to utilize computer system and software, tracker, nurse call,

and all other medical equipment.

10. Miscellaneous: Demonstrates knowledge of procedures for mandatory reporting.

11. Customer Service: Applies Mercy Service Standards to all interactions with both

internal, and external customers.

Qualifications:

Education : Graduation from an approved registered nursing program.

Licensure: Current licensure by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.

Experience : One year RN experience. Critical care/ER experience preferred.

New graduates may be considered on an individual basis.

Certification/Registration : BLS

Other skills & knowledge (Skills, knowledge, abilities): Demonstrates excellent customer service skills. Basic computer skills. Adaptable to change within a highly complex and

technical environment.
