Duties and Responsibilities:
Under the direct supervision of the Residential Care Administrator and on-duty supervision of the Supervising Registered Nurse for the care of residents, the incumbent assigned to the RCFE is responsible for the listed duty assignments, which include, but are not limited to the following:
Assist residents in their function of activity of daily living skills, which include, personal
Hygiene, assist with dressing, resident's personal laundry, shower and/or bath (stand-
by only), encourage residents to use their assistive devices (walkers, etc.), do health
and safety rounds, take resident's vital signs, assist residents with the self-administration of medications, assist with
scheduling transportation appointments, complete daily census, meal delivery when
resident takes meals in the RCFE or are unable to go to the dining room due to illness,
remove dirty linen from resident's restroom, remove dirty linen from resident's bed and
replace with clean linen, escort residents to medical appointments as needed (clinic and/
or local hospitals) assist residents with use of therapeutic medical equipment, ie., whirlpool bath tub, oxygen, participant as a member of the inter-disciplinary team, record accurate daily documentation on C.N.A. flow sheet and unit log book, report to the RCFE Administrator observations and concerns regarding resident's health and welfare, report any medical concerns to the RN or SRN on duty and assist other team members as needed.
Maintain clean orderly areas in the RCFE kitchenette, RCFE staff restroom, resident's
laundry facility, tub room, refrigerators and freezer, assist with distributing residents
morning, afternoon, and evening snacks, check all medical equipment, i.e., AED
machine, vital sign machine, disaster bag, medical supply closet, oxygen tank, breathing
machine, complete central supply list to replace medical supplies and equipment as
needed. Clean and sterilize equipment and other articles.
Assist with activity programs for residents as directed by the Activity Coordinator and the Residential Care Unit Leader.
Assist with resident's orientation, admission, transfer and discharge of residents to include inventory of resident's personal property.
Perform safety rounds, i.e., common areas, resident's rooms, check fire extinguishers,
maintain exit doors and hallways free of obstruction, make sure coffee pots and stove
is off, etc.
Perform immediate and/or temporary interventions in emergency situations. The incumbent will be responsible for support the RN or SRN on duty.
Perform optimum standards of residents care as needed, observe safety precautions,
rules and regulations at all times and exhibit a positive attitude towards all standards.
Participate in continuing education programs to maintain and advance nurse skills and
knowledge. Make suggestions through the appropriate chain of command for revising
policies and procedures. Participate in staff meetings and on committee to improve
the quality of life and care of all residents. Maintain First-Aid & CPR Certification.
Other related duties as assigned.
