BASIC PURPOSE:

A Field Construction Manager is responsible for the coordination of all construction activities for assigned new construction projects.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Must be able to manage multiple projects at the same time.
  • Perform job-site visits to verify physical progress of scheduled activities
  • Monitor schedule deviations and assist in the developing or approving of alternate methods of corrective action
  • Monitor and analyze change orders impacting cost and schedule
  • Evaluate and qualify bids received, making recommendations, selecting subcontractors / supplies to the project.
  • Accountable for negotiating and the final aspects of various local contractors to perform onsite work
  • Provide functional and Loves specific expertise and counseling to contractors.
  • Interact and provide guidance to outside architects, engineers, and permitting authorities.
  • Facilitate meetings with utility companies, city/county managers, and engineers to discuss field related issues.
  • Manage scope of work by identification of change conditions or work outside the scope.
  • Follow up associated with warranty and maintenance service issues with internal staff and contractors.
  • Assist site superintendent with confirmation of owner supplied items scheduled and delivered
  • Weekly progress reports of projects.
  • Other duties assigned as needed.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • HS Diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum 4-yr degree in architecture, project management, engineering or related discipline
  • Experience in the construction industry (Retail, fuel, restaurant, motel are a plus)

 

SKILLS AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Hard skills: General Computer Skills and proficient with Microsoft Office Software Suite

Soft Skills:

  • Self-motivated and ability to motivate other to maximize quality, efficiency and consistency in execution of construction activities
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong project scheduling and project management skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to interact with members of the project team, subcontractors, contractor’s project manager, contractor’s site superintendent, and architects
  • General knowledge of all aspects of construction (technology, processes, materials and products) and their impact to the overall project
  • Familiar with all aspects of design, construction, and project management delivery process
  • Interpret plans and specifications.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
  • Requires normal range of hearing and vision.
  • Overnight travel required.
