Barista/Cashier Role Overview
The Barista/Cashier is a store team member reporting to the Store Manager and/or Assistant Store Manager and supporting Peet's Mission by performing the Serve tenet of the Retail Operating Philosophy (ROP). The Retail Associate provides superior customer service by engaging with customers about products and promotions, cleaning and organizing the store so it reflects Peet's brand, and promptly preparing and serving coffees, teas, and beverages of unequalled quality. The Retail Associate also accurately operates point-of-sales terminals, maintains reliability in attendance, and demonstrates team work and respect in accordance with Peet's Values.
Essential Responsibilities
Customer Engagement
Ensure customers know they are welcomed and appreciated; understand what they want and help them with what they need.
* Engage with customers in a sincere and friendly manner through all points of their store experience, including acknowledging and greeting customers and thanking them for their patronage.
* Seek to understand customer needs and tailor suggestions to suit those needs, sharing product knowledge accurately and confidently and making personal recommendations.
* Prepare and maintain fresh coffee and tea samples. Engage with customers around samples and suggest promotional products and baked goods.
Clean and Organized
All areas in store are maintained, clean and well organized and reflect the quality of the Peet's brand.
* Demonstrate pride of the store by completing all cleaning, stocking, and organizing tasks assigned by service role and the service leader.
* Follow health and safety guidelines.
Unequalled Quality
Consistent delivery of the highest quality coffees, teas, beverages and baked goods in accordance with Peet's distinguishing quality standards.
* Prepare handcrafted bar drinks and brew coffee and tea, adhering to freshness and quality standards. Serve beverages in accordance with presentation standards.
* Participate actively in all training to build expertise on new and promotional products. Engage in on-going comparative tasting to expand knowledge of coffee and tea.
Speed of Service
Demonstrate that customers come first by serving them with a sense of urgency.
* Assist customers before completing other tasks in the store.
* Perform service role assigned by the service leader and maintain open communication with team members in order to promptly serve customers during peak and slow periods.
* Prepare bar drinks in accordance with speed of service standards and fulfill bean orders promptly.

SHIFT LEAD ROLE -
The Shift Lead is a store team member reporting to the Store Manager and/or the Assistant Store Manager and performing to Peet's Mission by executing the Serve and Manage tenets of the Retail Operating Philosophy (ROP). The Shift Lead is responsible for service excellence and store operations, with a primary focus on the Manage tenet of the ROP. The Shift Lead is responsible for inventory control, promotion execution and visual merchandising, store opening, closing and daily operations, equipment maintenance as well as directing store teams to complete tasks and provide superior customer service.
Essential Responsibilities*
Serve
* Model customer engagement by providing personalized superior customer service.
* Demonstrate pride of the store by completing cleaning, stocking, and organizing tasks. When acting as the Service Leader, assign and ensure completion of cleaning tasks for each service role as well as weekly cleaning and organization tasks.
* Prepare and serve handcrafted bar drinks and brew and serve coffee and tea. When acting as the Service Leader, provide consistent feedback to team members on bar drink quality and presentation and ensure all coffee and tea are fresh and properly rotated.
* When acting as the Service Leader, deploy service roles in response to changing service needs and according to deployment principles and oversee break schedule.
* Model effective, appropriate communication with customers and coworkers and use to de-escalate and resolve conflict.
Manage
* Execute quality store openings and closings, following all necessary procedures, including adherence to safety and security guidelines.
* Act as Cash Controller, ensuring the accuracy, completion, and reconciliation of all financial transactions and operate point-of-sale terminals according to the Cash Handling Guidelines.
* Troubleshoot common store equipment problems and initiate service and repair requests, as necessary and within a timely manner.
* Perform inventory control tasks, including receiving, counting, and ordering product to ensure enough stock is on hand to meet customer demands and to control costs and waste.
* Contribute to building sales by effectively executing marketing promotions and visual merchandising as well as by understanding customers' hardware needs and suggesting products to meet those needs.
* Communicate essential information to management team in a clear and timely manner.

* Minimum one year of retail supervisory experience and/or related experience and training.
