OSP Design - Quality Control Engineer needed for contract opportunities with Yoh's client located in San Jose CA.


The Big Picture - Top Skills You Should Possess:


The role of the Outside Plant Engineer is to provide guidance and to review outside plant and fiber designs for the placement of a greenfield fiber-to-the-home infrastructure. Key to this role is that this is a true greenfield (not brownfield or common trench) but rather a city-wide new build of underground and make-ready mandate of aerial.


What You'll Be Doing:



    - Responsible from Start to Finish (Design-to-Acceptance of Construction) for every design created- Any changes found required in the field, will be held responsible for approving or disapproving the changes- Performance evaluations shall be partially based on the number of field changes required on designs
    - It should be understood, the field has no authority to make changes to the design, only the Design Engineer and or WQA has the authority to make changes to approved designs
    - Responsible for creation of:- Nominal Design- High Level Designs- Low Level Designs- Construction Drawings- Permit Drawings- As Built Drawings- Conceptual designs for alternative solutions (i.e. Microduct ABF solutions)
    - Responsible for developing CONSTRUCTABLE outside plant designs (aerial and underground) that will allow for:- Optimal route selections and construction methods to ensure most cost effective design is created- Construction of route with minimal to no field changes- Obtaining Permits for Construction- Clearly demonstrate to the untrained eye the requirements for building an underground and or aerial infrastructure- All details on the construction drawings must be linked to GPS coordinates, with distances taking into consideration of the 'X', 'Y', and 'Z' coordinates for accurate distance measurements from GPS coordinates. Responsible for ensuring all designs created are fully compliant with industry and local standards and regulations, inclusive of:- NESC- EPA- NEC- RUS- EIA/TIA- ITU- Utility Pole Owners and or Joint Pole Authority- State of California GO95 and GO128- Respective Communities- BICSI- Client- Ericsson
    - Responsible for acting as the technical expert, when presenting Permitting drawings and or plans to the Authorities - associated City Officials; Planning, Roads, and Encroachment Permitting Department(s); and respective residents, inclusive of:- Cities/Communities- County- State- Department of Transportation- Water Company(s)- PG&E and other Aerial Pole Line owners- Light Transit Rail- Union Pacific Rail and other heavy rail lines- Home Owner Associations or other Residential/Neighborhood Organizations

What You Need to Bring to the Table:



    - Comprehensive knowledge of outside plant design for both aerial and underground
    - Comprehensive knowledge of GO95, GO128, NESC, NEC, and SR1421
    - Comprehensive knowledge of fiber-to-the-home architectures
    - Knowledge of various construction techniques, inclusive of:- Aerial (Make Ready Engineering and Strand Mapping)- Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD)- Narrow (Mini) Trenching- Micro-Trenching
    - Knowledge of fiber placement (aerial and underground), splicing, testing, and strand allocation
    - Knowledge of microduct, a major plus
    - Knowledge of AutoCAD
    - Knowledge of GIS, such as ArcGIS, a major plus
    - Should have at least 10-15 years in OSP Design
