Summary: Properly cook, prepare, and present food that looks and tastes as intended in a timely and efficient manner in compliance with all safety and sanitation practices.

 

Degree of Supervision: Performs a variety of routine work within established policies and procedures, and receives detailed instructions on new projects and assignments. Work is checked frequently.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:  May oversee the cooking activities of temporary/contract food service workers as assigned by the Executive Chef.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Cook, prepare, and serve various menu items using recipes when provided

Properly apply and execute all cooking techniques and ensure that food looks and tastes as intended

Maintain accurate daily records and logs

Properly store foods in designated areas: follow HACCP standards, wrap, label, date, and rotate all products. 

Clean, sanitize and maintain organized storage areas on assigned station.

Clean and maintain cooking equipment on assigned station

Handle and use chemicals according to manufacturers’ directions

Assist other areas of the kitchen as needed

Comply with all sanitation and safety requirements. 

Wear the prescribed uniform and maintain a professional appearance at all times.

Represent the company in a courteous, efficient, and friendly manner in all customer and employee interactions

Monitor food quality, seasoning levels, and temperatures

Work independently without more than normal supervision

Other duties may be assigned.

Education and Experience:  Associate's degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year College or technical school; or one to two years verifiable related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in scratch cooking, fine dining, and catering preferred

 

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, recipes, production sheets, temperature logs, safety rules, MSDS sheets.

 

Mathematical Skills:  Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.  Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent in order to convert recipes. 

 

Reasoning Ability:  Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Other Qualifications:  Servsafe certification preferred
