Department Overview: The Collection Counselor I, TD Auto Finance, is a critical member of the Collections organization. The general responsibilites of this role include the collection of payments on delinquent retail, consumer, and residential accounts while adhering to all releveant corporate standards. A partial list of specific duties is below

Job Description:

  • Collects payment on early delinquent (15-59 days) retail, consumer and residential accounts which may be more complex, obtaining commitments from Customers late on loan payments according to established procedures. 
  • Coordinates with attorneys, Realtors, credit counselors, servicing representatives, and internal Company personnel to facilitate collection activities. 
  • Documents calls, attempted calls and other account-related activities to Customers and third parties thoroughly on computer system to maintain current account status. Schedules accounts for follow-up. 
  • Determines reasons for Customer delinquencies and uses standard methods and procedures to secure payment. Asks borrowers about their monthly expenses and determines if they are behind on tax payments and other obligations. Evaluates Customers capacity to handle the debt. Identifies reasons why Customers can or cannot pay. 
  • Contacts Customers by telephone often through autodialer on a regular basis, pulls up accounts on system and reviews account status. May self manage own group of accounts. 
  • Identifies type of loan product involved, including residential mortgages, home equities, indirect loans, mobile homes, lines of credit, unsecured loans, recreational vehicles, overdrafts and others and modifies approach accordingly. 
  • Reminds borrowers of financial obligations and explains implications of debt nonpayment. 
  • Develops familiarity with debt management counseling and information to provide to Customers as necessary. 
  • Takes action as appropriate to mitigate the bank’s exposure. Revokes ATM/Check Cards on those overdrawn accounts. 
  • Suspends and/or terminates past due lines of credit.

Job Requirements    

  • High School diploma or equivalent. 
  • Ability to develop strong phone skills to effectively work with Customers. 
  • Developing negotiation skills to arrive at best overall solutions within established guidelines. 
  • Sales ability to make regular phone calls, present Company in positive way to Customers and tactfully but firmly collect payments. 
  • Ability to learn and explain wide variety of consumer loan product details. 
  • Writing ability to clearly document calls. 
  • PC skills. 
  • Evening and weekend hours required
