Southwest Medical Associates (SMA) is a multi-specialty group of physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and Physician Assistants consisting of over 300 providers, 21 medical health centers including six urgent care clinics, four convenient care centers, two lifestyle centers catering to older adults, an outpatient surgery center, plus E-visits and online options via Now Clinic telemedicine technology.  SMA offers patients compassion, innovation, and quality care throughout southern Nevada. SMA is headquartered in the greater Las Vegas, NV area.
 
The Consultant Pharmacist is the clinical representative for THC at all contracted facilities.  The Clinical Pharmacist provides pharmacy consultation to the contracted facility and its medical and nursing staff. The primary function of the Consultant Pharmacist is the monitoring of the patient's therapy and progress or  potential outcome via chart review.  The Consultant Pharmacist works closely with the patient's physician and facility nursing staff to optimize the safety and efficacy of the patient's medication regimen.  The Consultant  Pharmacist operates with a high degree of independence and autonomy. The position requires accountability to medication, procedure, and  systems management and the contracted customer.
 
Primary Responsibilities:


Review medication orders, checking for appropriateness of therapy and recommend changes in antibiotic, total parenteral nutrition, pain management, anticoagulation, and other therapies when necessary

Participate in quality improvement programs, productivity projects, resource  projects, and and any other programs deemed necessary to improve the quality of patient care or increase THC Pharmacy productivity

Intervene in complicated cases where pharmaceutical expertise is required to improve quality of patient care or when appropriateness of therapy is questioned

Communicate with THC pharmacy, nursing and physicians to resolve and clarify discrepancies and medication orders throughout the various facilities

Follow automatic substitution policies, implement formulary, and place stop dates on antibiotic or anticoagulation therapy where appropriate to lower THC Pharmacy's acquisition costs

Exercise positive customer service and communication skills with  contracted facility and THC Pharmacy and with other THC and Family Companies staff

Represent THC at all required committee meetings at contracted facilities and within Family Companies
 
 

Requirements


Required Qualifications:

Current unrestricted Pharmacy license in the state of Nevada
Bachelors degree in Pharmacy
2+ years of clinical pharmacy experience
Flexible to work at least 2 days a week, weekday or weekend shifts  7-4 or 8-5. (schedule is subject to change)
Preferred Qualifications:

Pharmacy experience in Retail and Long Term Care or Home Infusion
