3M is seeking a Technical Proposal Writer for the Traffic Safety & Security Division Documentation and Proposals Team located in Pasadena, CA. Ready to be part of what's next?
Job Summary :
The person hired for the position of Technical Proposal Writer works with the Documentation & Proposals Department in responding to RFx that offer significant revenue potential. This individual researches, writes and edits detailed proposal sections that illustrate 3M Cogent solutions in a persuasive and compliant manner, with a focus on the technical offering. The ideal candidate will have a background not only in proposal writing, but in engineering and project management as well.
Primary Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Analyzing the customer's technical requirements and defining a 3M Cogent hardware and software solution that will not only meet but exceed the customer's requirements
- Working with the Systems Solutions Team (SST) to conduct system sizing and prepare the bill of materials (including both server and client hardware/software)
- Creating rack diagrams
- Creating system architecture diagrams (e.g., network diagrams, interface connectivity diagrams, etc.)
- Defining/specifying necessary system interfaces
- Developing workflows based on the customer's business rules
- Creating graphics (i.e., diagrams, tables, etc.) to illustrate concepts in the proposal
- Providing proposal editing, formatting, and production support as necessary
- Communicating effectively with SMEs and cross-functional proposal teams
- Creating and maintaining boilerplate text for use in future proposals
Basic Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited university
- Minimum of two (2) years of any combination of the following experience: networks, software, systems, hardware, firmware, and/or information technology
- Minimum of one (1) year of proposal writing experience
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ability to take complex, technical concepts and express them in terms which can be easily understood by a non-technical audience
- Familiarity with client-server system integration
- Familiarity with network programming using TCP/IP, UDP, etc.
- Familiarity with various operating systems including but not limited to Microsoft Windows, Linux, and other UNIX variants
- Familiarity with Microsoft Windows development environment and tools such as Visual Studio and Visual SourceSafe
- Familiarity with SOA and web services
- Familiarity with multiple RDBMS platforms
- Familiarity with security solutions
- Ability to write proposal text from scratch
- Ability to modify boilerplate proposal text to meet the specific requirements of each new RFP
- Mastery of the English language, including grammar, punctuation, and spelling
- Mastery of Microsoft Word, Microsoft PowerPoint, and Microsoft Visio
- Strong organizational and analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and as a member of various teams
- Meticulous attention to detail
- Ability to learn new concepts quickly
- Ability to work under extreme pressure and very tight deadlines
- Ability and willingness to work overtime, including nights, weekends, and holidays when necessary to meet a proposal deadline
