The franchisee controls all aspects of the hotel's employment policies and practices, including the selection and hiring process. The Renaissance New York Midtown Hotel is looking for a highly qualified individual for it's Controller position. The hotel, which will open in Q1 2016, features 348 guest rooms, 4,500 square feet of meeting space, a two story Planet Fitness Health Club and a 400 seat restaurant including an 8,000 square foot outdoor patio.

Hotel experience required, Renaissance Brand and Marriott experience is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of the financial reporting and general ledger structure Develop and implement new procedures and features to enhance the workflow of the department. Ensure an accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and year end close. Ensure the timely reporting of all monthly financial information. Maintain confidentiality of all financial data. Supports budget and forecasting activities. Monitors and analyzes department work to develop more efficient procedures and use of resources while maintaining a high level of accuracy. Advises hotel staff regarding the handling of non-routine reporting transactions. Responds to inquiries from other finance and company-wide managers regarding financial results, special reporting requests and the like. Performs day-to-day accounts payable functions while overseeing accounts receivable, income audit, general cashier, taxes and internal controls. Operates office equipment including personal computer, copiers, fax machines and 10-key calculator. Organizes and maintains retention files for required period of time Maintains regular attendance, is consistently on time, and observes prescribed work, break and meal periods in compliance with standards. Maintains high standards of personal appearance and grooming, which include compliance with the dress code. Performs any other duties as requested by supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.

An Accounting Degree from an accredited 4 year university. 4 to 6 years of hands-on Hotel Accounting experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages. Strong working knowledge of MS Office is required, specifically Excel. Experience with automated accounting systems is required.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

Supervises Accounting Clerk, position may vary by hotel. Oversees duties of Night Auditors in conjunction with Front Office Manager.
