About this job

Under the direct and immediate supervision of a surgeon, provides aid in exposure, hemostasis and other technical functions that will help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with optimal results for the patient. Makes members/patients and their needs a primary focus of one's actions; develops and sustains productive member/patient relationships. Actively seeks information to understand member/patient circumstances, problems, expectations, and needs. Builds rapport and cooperative relationship with members/patients. Considers how actions or plans will affect members; responds quickly to meet member/patient needs and resolves problems.

Essential Functions:

* Positions the patient in accordance with the surgeon's instruction, which will give the best exposure for the surgical procedure. Uses standard and specialized equipment to aid in patient positioning.

* Provides the surgeon(s) with appropriate visualization of the operative site using retractors, sponges, digital manipulation, and other techniques according to standards. Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist surgeon with temporary or permanent hemostasis.

* Utilizes appropriate techniques to assist with closure of body planes (e.g., sutures, staples, other). Selects and applies appropriate wound dressings.

* Assist Anesthesia with intubation, extubation, blocks and other requests as deemed necessary for care of the patient.

* Assists with patient transport to and from OR, including from gurney to OR bed.

* Must perform other duties as assigned.

* This is a regional position so travel is required.

Basic Qualifications:

Experience

* N/A.

Education

* High School Graduation or General Education Development (GED) required.

* Graduation from an accredited surgical technology program.

* Enrolled in an accredited surgical assistant program and eligible for clinical.

License, Certification, Registration

* Certification credentialed by the National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting (NBSTSA) or Certification credentialed by the National Surgical Assistants Association (NSAA) OR Certification credentialed by the American Board of Surgical Assisting (ABSA), or Certification credentialed by the National Assistant Surgery Council (NASC) and registered with the State of Colorado as a Surgical Assistant.

* National Provider Identifier (NPI) and Taxonomy code required at time of hire. Employee must have National Provider Identifier at time of hire.

Additional Requirements:

* Employment contingent upon receiving credentials at HealthOne, SCL Health Systems and all KP owned or affiliated surgical venues to practice as a Surgical Assistant.

* Demonstrated customer service skills, customer focus abilities and the ability to understand Kaiser Permanente customer needs.

* May be assigned to work at any KP owned or affiliated Surgical Venues.
