Responsibilities* The Medical School is seeking an experienced Sr. Business Consultant who will report to the Executive Director of Administration and Finance and be charged with leading teams that evaluate, develop and then implement a series of projects that span multiple functional domains.

The Sr. Business Consultant will be responsible for a portfolio of projects at different stages of evaluation and implementation. It is likely that at any given time he or she will have one major late stage project for which they will be accountable, and will have four to six early stage projects under development or evaluation. The Sr. Business Consultant will be the single point of contact with the faculty or staff champion of late stage projects and will assemble and lead the team who are involved with all aspects of the implementation of the particular projects.

The Sr. Business Consultant will play an active role in evaluating internal or external proposals, helping to determine their strategic fit with the MS priorities, and developing sufficient detail and understanding of the project to allow a clear yes/no decision to be made to implement the project. Examples of potential projects includes: major research program feasibility assessment, tuition strategy, analytics, assessment of current state/future state of changes to business operations, etc.

The Sr. Business Consultant may also provide administrative consulting to units within Medical School Administration, including assisting existing managers and directors with administrative modernization efforts.

Successful candidates will have a substantial background in quantitative methods, experience with modeling and analytic techniques across multiple data sets and a proven ability in translating complex analyses into actionable information for executive level decision making. In addition, this role will require productive interactions with faculty and staff from many departments both within and outside the Medical School, central facility groups providing services such as space planning, design, construction, IT, scientific services, school administrators, and campus partner.

The Sr. Business Consultant will be expected to work closely together to develop an overall summary of project milestones and the resources to complete projects on time. They will be expected to solve resource issues and propose options when there are conflicts. Sr. Business Consultants are expected to be adaptable and willing to take on a broad variety of additional tasks to improve operational efficiency, make or prepare presentations to internal or external groups, organize and participate on committees, and any other duties as assigned and function with a high degree of independence with minimal day-to-day supervision to deliver projects in a timely and effective manner.

Required Qualifications* The most important skills for this position are, a demonstrated ability to:

A Bachelor's degree in science or business plus at least 4 years of relevant work experience.

Deal effectively and persuasively with people at all levels of both an academic and a corporate enterprise,

Think strategically, logically and exercise sound judgment,

Lead a team and also be a good team member,

Organize a project with attention to detail, make decisions, and achieve results on time,

Manage cross functional unit projects and/or teams which include project planning, task management, status reporting, etc.

Rapidly pick up the necessary understanding of the business or scientific principles of a project to allow an intelligent conversation with the staff and faculty champion.

Desired Qualifications*

Master's degree in Business Administration, Health Services Administration or other quantitative degree. Strong finance, economics, accounting, statistics and operations management expertise is preferred.

Over 5 years' experience in a healthcare, higher education and/or academic health center setting desired. Previous assignments that include business intelligence analytics, financial analysis and project execution required.

A working knowledge of University of Michigan policies and business procedures,

Project management certification

Considerable communication and presentation experience with ability to interpret data for problem resolutions and identification of potential problems appropriate for executive audiences.

Proven ability to work across multiple functions (finance, IT, HR, Student, Research, etc.) and demonstrated success in quickly developing appropriate domain knowledge from each to support more robust solutions.

Proven ability in problem analyses, methodology development, technical execution, and development of strategic recommendations for leadership

Ability to assess competing priorities, manage workflow and meet operational deadlines in a complex organization is necessary.
