Responsibilities: The Emergency Department Physician Assistant Nurse Practitioner provides high quality, competent medical care that is professional, timely, effective, safe, efficient, and patient-centered to the customers of the regional sites' Emergency Departments and Urgent Care Departments. The Emergency Medicine PA NP will be able to exercise autonomy in medical decision making and provides a broad range of diagnostic and therapeutic services within the limits of their training and experience, and their scope of practice. Obtains a complete and thorough medical history, performs physical examinations, orders and interprets appropriate diagnostic tests, formulates impressions and orders appropriate treatment plans for Emergency Department and Urgent Care patients. Performs simple and complex medical procedures and lifesaving interventions. Prescribes pharmacological agents and non-pharmacological treatments and therapies. Promotes wellness and prevention. Performs teaching and counseling for patients and families. Consults with supervising physician, specialists, Mayo Clinic Health System ED Physicians, and other members of the interdisciplinary health care team as appropriate. Actively participates in the coordination of a patient-centered plan of care. Applies principles of continuous improvement to all aspects of job performance. Through a collegial and cooperative team approach, the physician assistant functions as an interdisciplinary team member in the delivery of high quality and cost effective care.

Qualifications: Masters prepared graduate of an accredited school of nursing and Nurse Practitioner program. Current Minnesota RN and APRN license and certification as a FNP

Or graduate of accredited Physician Assistant program with current PA certification by NCCPA and registration as a PA by the Minnesota State Board of Medical Practice.

Additional Qualifications: Current BLS. Current ACLS. Current CALS, (or within 1 year of hire). Current ATLS auditor course, (or within 1 year of hire). Current PALS, (or within 1 year of hire). Advanced Airway Management Course (or within one year of hire)_ Procedural Sedation/Rapid Sequence Intubation, (or within one year of hire) NRP preferred. TNCC preferred. ACLS-EP preferred. Combat Casualty Care Course, (C-4), preferred.

Emergency Medicine Physician Assistant Basic Studies Course certified preferred. 2 years of Emergency Department experience or equivalent preferred. Experience in Urgent Care, General Medicine or Family Practice preferred. Certification in Emergency Medicine, preferred

Ability to demonstrate clinical competence and maintain current knowledge in caring for newborn through geriatric patients in the emergency department setting. Ability to operate the full range of medical equipment needed in Emergency Medicine. Needs to possess a high level of intelligence, integrity, sense of responsibility and the ability to comprehend and analyze details. Must have the ability to work with frequent interruptions, under stress, with minimal supervision, and to exercise initiative and judgment in analyzing, organizing, planning, prioritizing, scheduling and coordinating work with others. Pleasant disposition; ability to get along well with other people, as demonstrated by the ability to interface positively with all customers and employees. Ability to lead team members in the treatment of critically ill and/or injured patients. Ability to be assertive. Basic Computer Knowledge. Ability to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. Ability and willingness to learn new skills and methods. Ability to perform lifesaving procedures on ill and/or injured patients, including but not limited to: RSI, cricothyrotomy, chest tube insertion, central line insertion, venous cut-down, intra-osseous needle insertion, transtracheal needle ventilation, transcutaneous and/or transvenous pacing, difficult airway intubation, and surgical airway. Schedule Details: Current position requires 12 hour shifts in Monday - Friday. Nights and weekend will be required in the future.
