The Director, Merchandising -- dressbarn is responsible for developing and executing a strategy that drives sales and profit for multiple and/or high volume, complex departments while building a line that is consistently customer focused and brand appropriate. Leads the Cross Functional Team (CFT) and collaborates with broad scope of functional partners (e.g. marketing, visual, e-com etc. in addition to P & A, PD/Design). The Director, Merchandising will lead company initiatives and strategic brand product launches independently, anticipates obstacles and solves complex business challenges. He/she is a talent coach, adept at identifying high potential talent and developing Merchants with succession in mind while leading and developing the entire team. Possesses expert strategic skills to identify short and long term opportunities for their area of responsibility and for the brand.

Responsibilities:

* Drives top-line financial results for the categories to achieve sales and margin plans and manages all aspects of the business for assigned merchandise categories (entire brand -- stores and ecom)

* Delivers a cohesive, brand right merchandise assortment that is coordinated across the merchandising categories to drive sales and MMU $ and delivers financial results

* Identifies opportunities and/or independently leads strategic initiatives to drive results

* Partners with M,P & A to maintain appropriate inventory levels (e.g. markdowns, RTV, consignment) and OTB

* Continually reacts to current business trends; ensures the integration of fashion newness, develops upside strategies, recognizes product evolution and potential voids

* Develops product testing strategies that drive top line sales and margin

* Recommends marketing content for season to MM

* Creates departmental strategy to ensure immediate and long-term profitability

* Architects balanced assortment plan that integrates fashion, style and pricing pyramids, and tiered strategies partnering with CFT to create best strategy. Works with Merchant to develop seasonal framework including style and sku count at a total category level. Synthesizes trend intelligence and determine its relevancy to brand strategy

* Ensures department strategies are aligned with division strategies; Approaches department strategy with a global perspective, leveraging other departments and cross-functional areas to maximize brand potential

* Translates customer and competitor information along with merchandise fashion knowledge into action which drives category-specific sales growth and increases profitability to support overall company goals

* Cultivates partnerships and effective relationships both internally and externally -- planning/allocation, design, marketing, vendors, and across functions within company

* Cultivates talent and leads by example; clearly communicating expectations, developing future leaders and ensuring solid bench strength Requirements * BA or equivalent work experience, 5-7 years of related work experience as a Merchant; 7-10 years of retail merchandising experience and 5+ years of management experience. Strong systems and computer skills.

* Proven track record of driving category results.

* Strong understanding of vertically integrated retail operations coupled with the organizational ability to facilitate multitasking and collaboration in a fast-paced environment.

* Strong communication, presentation, negotiating and analytical skills.

* Self-motivated with inner drive and initiative to deliver results; ability to take analysis into timely action and solutions.

* Ability to build collaborative relationships and partnerships across departments and divisions.

* Strong fashion sense with proven talent to envision and interpret fashion trends for brand.
