This posting represents multiple positions

Performs a variety of duties to support the testing, delivery & distribution of lab results. Performs a variety of laboratory procedures, including phlebotomy, capillary puncture & other specimen collection processes.

Essential Functions:

* Greets, instructs & communicates to all patients in a courteous and professional manner

* Clearly communicates patient collection instructions

* Demonstrates knowledge of specimen collection processes

* Proficient w/computer systems & multiple software programs as required, according to company & departmental procedures

* Successfully completes the required laboratory orientation, training, competencies & on-going education as assigned

* Follows established procedures for patient identification, specimen collection & labeling

* Receives & processes specimens received from patients & other departments

* Assesses specimen integrity & prepares, packages & arranges for transport of specimens as required

* Processes specimens to include racking, creating work lists & loading instruments

* Performs maintenance on equipment & is responsible for equipment startup & shutdown as assigned

* Answers & assists w/routine telephone inquiries in a courteous & professional manner

* Provides excellent customer service skills

* Has positive customer interactions & demonstrates good service recovery skills

* Conducts him/herself in accordance w/the principles of the Labor Management Partnership & the Bedrock Cultural Elements

* Performs waived & moderate complexity lab testing according to established laboratory procedures

* Enters results into the lab computer system for waived & moderate complexity testing

* Communicates & documents results, including alert values, to clinical staff

* Performs other duties as assigned

* In addition to defined technical requirements, accountable for consistently demonstrating service behaviors & principles defined by the Kaiser Permanente Service Quality Credo, the KP Mission as well as specific departmental/organizational initiatives

* Also accountable for consistently demonstrating the knowledge, skills, abilities, & behaviors necessary to provide superior & culturally sensitive service to each other, to our members, & to purchasers, contracted providers & vendors

Basic Qualifications:

* High school graduation or equivalent

* Completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program & successful completion of a phlebotomy externship of at least 80 hours w/in a four week period w/in the last year. (A minimum of six months of concentrated phlebotomy experience w/in the three years may be substituted for the phlebotomy training program)

* Or completion of an accredited Phlebotomy training program & two years of previous concentrated phlebotomy experience

* Or completion of a Medical Assistant program that includes phlebotomy training & a minimum of six months of concentrated phlebotomy experience w/in the past three years

* Effective Jan 1, 2012, all new hires must take either the AMT, ASCP or ASPT certification exam & successfully pass w/in the first year of employment.
