Job Summary:

Assists in the delivery of patient care and performance of established tasks and procedures under the supervision of a physically present and immediately available Registered Nurse/Provider. Performs clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice.

Essential Duties:

Assists in implementing plan of care by performing common clinical procedures and tasks within scope of practice. Demonstrates competency in the delivery of care and clinical techniques, including (but not limited to): Basic Airway Management CPR Vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, oral and rectal temperature, Respirations, and pulse oximetry Electrocardiogram Point of care testing Wound care including suture set-up Assisting with eye and ear irrigation Orthopedic splinting Visual acuity Suture/staple removal Assisting with gastric lavage Assisting with activities of daily living Peak flow Breath alcohol Assists with removal of peripheral IV and urinary catheters Conducts clinical activities requiring a Medical Assistant-Phlebotomy certification, such as blood glucose checks and phlebotomy. Decontamination/Washdown with Level C Bio-Haz Suit and powered respirator Assists in making observations, gathering data and identifying patient care needs. Responds appropriately to emergency situations. Assists with patient transport and transfer. Assists with cleaning, stocking and maintenance of department equipment and supplies. Adheres to safety and risk management standards. Assists with clerical and communication tasks to support patient care. Cultural Sensitivity and Competence: Demonstrates proper use of communication tools/materials for effective communication and understands how the culture(s) of patient populations can affect communication, collaboration and the provision of care, treatment and services. Patient Population Served: Demonstrates knowledge and proper skills associated with the department's defined specific populations served. Performs related duties as required. Education/Experience

High school diploma (or GED equivalent) and completion of one of the following that demonstrates attainment of the requisite job knowledge skills/abilities: Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) program OR Medical Assistant program OR Certified Nursing Assistant program OR Completion of one year of nursing school.

License/Certification

Current Certified Nursing Assistant (C.N.A.) OR Current Registered Nursing Assistant (R.N.A.) either recorded by the state as received and in processing, or completed. The forms required to initiate the Washington State Medical Assistant-P application process must be submitted to the Department of Health within 90 days of employment in the position, as evidenced by a proof of payment receipt. Certification must be received with 120 days of date of hire in the position. Current healthcare provider BLS certification.
