The Time Warner Cable Louisville, KY office currently seeks a/an Optical Network Engineer 3 for our Network Engineering & Operations Department. Below please find a brief description of the essential duties and responsibilities required to function successfully in this position.
Position Summary
The Network Engineer 3 Optical Transport will be responsible for designing, deploying, managing, and ensuring stability of the local/wide area network infrastructure technologies to provide high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability of the DWDM / ROADM Transport Network. Demonstrates a high level of competence in Optical Transport technologies, troubleshooting critical issues, and coordination of implementation. Represents the Engineering Department working closely with regional Architects and Engineers in designing, modeling, and implementing new technologies within the division. Performs moves, adds, and changes of equipment and systems specifically following the designated change management policies.
Essential Job Functions:
Troubleshoots and resolves critical network and system issues
Develop innovative solutions and maintain network monitoring and system performance tools,
techniques, policies and procedures
Project management – document project requirements including scope, costs, schedule, testing and terms of delivery to ensure project is completed with highest level of quality on time and under budget
Mentors and trains other Engineering personnel in key elements of networking systems and provides technical presentations to instruct co-workers and other production services support individuals
As part of an on-call/standby rotation, respond to after-hours call-out for service restoration, troubleshooting, network testing and repair of all necessary equipment; track all equipment RMA ' s and ensure that proper levels of spare inventory are maintained
Research and identify technology opportunities and their application to the business
Other duties as required
Job Requirements:
Required – 3 to 5 years of hands-on experience supporting/maintaining Cisco and other major optical technology platforms, and Fiber Optics
Must have the ability to facilitate and lead meetings, facilitate understanding and agreement, and lead network deployments providing guidance and training to team members
Must have the ability to balance responsibilities for multiple projects to ensure timely results, prioritize critical tasks and meet demands in the most effective and efficient manner
Must have the ability to troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve complex systems problems and demonstrate advanced knowledge of decision-making techniques
Must have demonstrated experience utilizing structured change and project management
methodologies
Must have the ability to establish and maintain effective customer focused working relationships with managers, customers, vendors, consultants, employees and others encountered in the course of work
Integrity and Trust - demonstrates basic ability to operate with a high degree of honesty and openness,such that respect and trust is earned by coworkers and customers
Experience developing disaster recovery and business continuation plans
Strong decision making skills to effectively restore network issuesStrong interpersonal skills necessary to work in a professional, cooperative manner to successfully interact with members of cross-functional teams including sales engineering, network engineering, service delivery, construction, operations and financeProficient using PC, Internet and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint)Must possess a valid driver’s license and safe driving record

May require daily travel to network equipment sites in the area
Possible overnight travel to remote locations with the Region, as needed
Possible overnight travel out of area for training
