Garland Behavioral Hospital (GBH) is an Adult and Geriatric psychiatric hospital located inside of Baylor Scott and White Medical Center - Garland. We are looking for great employees to join our exciting new team at a new location

The Intake Staff Nurse/Intake Counselor has responsibility for assessment, referral and admission activities. The Intake Nurse/Counselor ensures prompt response to patient and referral needs, provides clinical assessment, and assures appropriateness of risk assessment, crisis interventions and referral to alternative levels of care. The Intake Nurse/Counselor promotes patient care consistent with the philosophy and objectives of UHS, Inc. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competency, knowledge, skill and ability to meet the minimum requirements for this position. Flexibility is a must, and the knowledge and skills to accomplish the job.

Master's Degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or closely related field.

Current, active licensure in the State of Texas as one of the following - LPC, LPC-I, LMSW, LCSW, Psychologist or RN.

Must have current CPR certification.

The ideal candidate will possess knowledge of therapeutic relationships and processes, age-specific growth and development, diagnostic process and criteria, crisis and behavior management.

Effective oral and written communication skills. Ability to concentrate on tasks and meet deadlines, basic data entry skills, time management, problem solving skills are essential.

Understanding of EMTALA guidelines, mandatory screening agent usage, HIPAA regulations, and third-party payer knowledge preferred.

Must possess an ability to interact effectively with persons of widely diverse roles, backgrounds, cultures, and socio-economic status.

Preference will be given to candidates possessing at least one year of assessment, admission and crisis intervention experience with the mental health population, preferably in an inpatient setting.

Prefer knowledge of hospital admissions functions, and leadership skills.
